WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis might be the face of boxing, but rising star Keyshawn Davis doesn’t think much of the Baltimore native. ‘The Businessman’ is geared to lock horns with WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14th at the Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, but hasn’t lost sight of ‘Tank.’
Much like the entire lightweight division, Keyshawn Davis has called out Davis for a fight several times. Akin to the rest of the folks, ‘Tank’ has refused to give Keyshawn the time of the day. However, this didn’t stop the Norfolk native from hitting Davis where it hurts the most. While appearing in an interview with Fight Hub TV recently, Keyshawn took digs at the WBA champion.
“I would love to face [Gervonta Davis]. … I just think he [doesn’t] have the balls to fight me. I really just feel that way… I don’t think he really got the balls to see me on contract and fight me,” Keyshawn Davis said. ‘The Businessman’ will fight for his first major title this weekend, and a win here technically puts him on the same level as Gervonta Davis.
‘Tank’, on the other hand, is expected to clash against WBA featherweight champion Lamount Roach Jr. on March 1st in Brooklyn. Regardless, Keyshawn Davis thinks if Gervonta was really up for it, it’s a very easy fight to make between them.
Later in the interview, the 25-year-old roped in David Benavidez, highlighting his situation with Canelo Alvarez. Benavidez, despite being Canelo’s mandatory for over a year, hasn’t been able to secure a fight. So, Keyshawn Davis wants to carve out his own path rather than chase Gervonta Davis to the end of the earth.
“I’m just waiting for him to send me a contract, bro,” Keyshawn said. “I feel like, with me and him, making a fight is easier because everybody knows who the A side is. Everybody knows what the f**k’s going on when it comes down to me and him as far as making a fight. I feel like it’s actually a really easy fight to make and it’s definitely easy promoting it.”
That said, it appears Keyshawn Davis is sick and tired of trying to convince Gervonta Davis to give him the fight that he deserves. However, whether they will ever meet in the ring is yet to be seen. Do you think Keyshawn Davis can beat Gervonta Davis? Let us know in the comments down below.
