It was a dominant win for Alvarez, dropping Berlanga on his way to a one-sided unanimous decision victory, handing the Puerto Rican his first defeat in the process.

The next man standing opposite Canelo in the ring could well be Crawford, who has made it clear he would be willing to step up to 168lbs for the bout despite currently being two weight classes below his rival.

‘Bud’ was last in action in August when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title in his 154lb debut, becoming a four-weight world champion in the process.

Berlanga has now given his take on the proposed Canelo vs. Crawford match-up whilst talking to Sway, and needed just three words to sum up his initial thoughts on the American’s chances.

“Anything can happen.”

He then explained exactly why he thinks ‘Bud’ has what it takes to get the win.

“Terence Crawford is great, he’s a great fighter. The only thing I see that I favour Canelo is his weight and that he’s bigger, that’s the only thing.

“As far as skillset wise, IQ, I feel like Crawford can match anybody and probably do way better. Crawford is a legend and like I said you can’t count him out.”

While Berlanga may see it as a 50-50 fight, two-weight world champion Tim Bradley sees it being a destructive victory for ‘Bud’ Crawford.

There will never be an official or objective pound-for-pound list in boxing, for it is only ever a matter of opinion. Yet that still doesn’t diminish the fun of trying to place the world’s best fighters in some sort of order. It is even more fun to predict who will top the pound-for-pound list in 12 months’ time

Lucas Ketelle: I think it will still be Usyk. Naoya Inoue, I think will start to regress this year. I don’t see Crawford fighting after 2025. Artur Beterbiev probably won’t fight after 2025, and who knows what Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is doing. Four of the best 10 fighters in the world might be viewed a lot differently in 2025. I think we are going to see a lot of younger fighters move up into the top-five. Fighters like Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, Shakur Stevenson and the emergence of Keyshawn Davis as a top-10 pound-for-pound fighter will grab our attention.

Owen Lewis: Inoue or Rodriguez, both of whom are outclassing their opponents by greater margins than the rest of the pound-for-pound elite. Usyk and Crawford will likely begin succumbing to age by year’s end.

Declan Warrington: Oleksandr Usyk. I don’t see another fight that can enhance his reputation any further than it already deserves, but I also don’t see him declining significantly or doing anything to harm it – or another fighter surpassing him in the coming 12 months.

Lance Pugmire: Bam Rodriguez. His willingness to unify and eagerness to accept any challenge sent his way deserves an elevated profile as we turn our backs on those like Jaron Ennis who are shrinking from the best fights possible and others who are keeping their fight schedule to a minimum of one appearance per year. I’d rather have five Bam types occupying the sport than those who think we’re all clamoring for their rare emergence.

Bernard Neequaye: Oleksandr Usyk. It will be difficult to beat Usyk’s current status in the sport considering what he has done at cruiserweight and heavyweight. After becoming undisputed at both weights, Usyk has proven to be the man to beat and I’m yet to see who can topple him from the pound for pound list in 2025.

Eric Raskin: Usyk has put a little distance between himself and the likes of Inoue and Crawford, such that I’m not sure either of them can do anything to seize the P4P throne unless the heavyweight champ slips up. Well, that’s not true — if Crawford gets a Canelo fight and wins that fight, it would re-open the debate. But realistically, Usyk will still be The Man a year from now unless he beats Dubois a second time and then retires, feeling there are no worlds left to conquer.

Matt Christie: If Usyk is active and winning in 2025, common sense dictates that he’ll retain his spot.

Elliot Worsell: If he’s still active, it will likely be Usyk. Given the considerable leap in weight he has made and his physical disadvantages at heavyweight, nobody can compare with the Ukrainian for as long as he remains unbeaten and active.

Tris Dixon: If Crawford gets a high-level opponent and can do to them as he did to Spence in 2023, he will always be in the conversation. It is hard to pick against Usyk, but after a long, hard and often emotional career, I’m not sure how many times he can go back to the well.

A matchup between Fury and Joshua has long alluded the boxing world for one reason or another. Many believe the typical boxing politics prevented the two from sharing the ring at the peak of their careers. Now that both men are without gold and have tasted defeat more than once, there is a belief that the fight could finally come to fruition.

The only problem is, some feel that the best chance to make the bout happen has come and gone and the interest level won’t be nearly as high as it could’ve been.

Darren Till Blasts Promoters for Botching Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua

With talk once again swirling of a potential clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, former UFC star Darren Till took to his ‘X’ account to unleash a rant on the fight not happening when it should have.

“5 years too late. No one is assed. Respect the fuck out of the both of you. But you and ur promoters wanted to play who’s got the biggest dick so the fight is just like yeh… we’ll watch it but we’re not fucking assed. Why on gods green earth didn’t use fight when use were both on tears years ago? It’s not the same now and that is why Dana is laughing again.

“Soon as the best reach the top they fight each other. Tyson and AJ have been fighting everyone but each other and that was the fight to make years ago at Wembley. But obvs that was back when both thought the other didn’t need the other and ur promoters were in the toilets measuring their dicks and their egos.

“Sorry to rant but I think a lot of people will agree… I actually feel like it’s an insult to the fanbase for us to give use hundreds of millions when really we should have got this fight years ago so yeh… fuck off AJ we’re not assed mate!”

If “The Gypsy King” and Joshua finally do battle in 2025, the fight is still expected to do big business despite the timing. The question is, how much interest will the fight garner at this point?

The Ukrainian heavyweight has, after all, shared the ring with both men.

Fury put an end to Klitschko’s reign of dominance over the heavyweight division by snatching his WBA, IBF and WBO titles away from him in 2015 via unanimous decision following a remarkable 22-fight winning streak that lasted for 11 years.

Klitschko went on to activate the rematch clause in his contract but their second fight was cancelled as Fury’s mental health spiralled out of control.

While Fury took some time away from the sport, Joshua put the final nail in Klitschko’s coffin two years later by knocking him out in the 11th round of a barnburning bout.

Both Brits have gone on to become the two biggest names in the heavyweight division but as of yet their paths are yet to cross between the ropes.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Will it finally happen? | Boxing News | Sky SportsHowever, that looks set to change this year with both men seemingly on a collision course to face each other after suffering back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Klitscko’s opinion may have changed since he was last asked who he thought would win the all-British showdown.

But back in 2018, his stance was clear – even if his wording was a bit odd.

“Hands down Joshua,” he told Sky Sports. “He is getting to be the complete fighter.

“Technically, size-wise, weight-wise, power-wise. And he is a good learner.

“The other guy [Fury], like a fart in the wind, is there, and it is gone.

“In the history of boxing, there are a lot of examples of this kind of guy.

“They can be successful for a time but are not disciplined enough to continue to be successful.

“I wish Tyson well, but I think there is a lack of discipline there, and discipline is more important than motivation.

“Drawing from my experience, I would say it is going to be very difficult for Tyson because there’s that lack of discipline.”

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will soon be presented with venue for world title fight, says promoter Eddie Hearn | Boxing News | Sky SportsOf course, these comments came during Fury’s first retirement from the sport when he was drinking and abusing drugs.

But that’s not to say his commitment to the sport hasn’t been questioned over the years.

His lack of discipline nearly cost him an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Francis Ngannou in 2023 when he came in at a career-heaviest weight and then barely scraped by the boxing novice.

However, he would undoubtedly pay more respect to Joshua.

Especially given the extortionate amount of money that will be on the line if the fight ever gets past the negotiation table.

Gervonta Davis shocked boxing fans when he announced that he will be hanging up the gloves at the end of 2025.

The knockout artist from Baltimore is 30-0 in his campaign with 28 stoppages. He has the potential, with a little more activity, to be one of it not the biggest star in the sport. That now looks unlikely given his out-of-the-blue retirement call.

Speaking to Moment Of Spotlight, an introspective ‘Tank’ Davis said his decision was somewhat based on the outside influences of the sport.

Gervonta Davis Drops Bombshell On 'Stepping Away From Boxing' For One Reason: "Never See Me Again" - Seconds Out

“I’m going through a lot, been through a lot, been betrayed and s**t like that. It really made me want to give up on the limelight. Everybody chase being in front of the camera. They chase an image. I don’t want to be a part of that. As long as I have my money, can take care of my kids and whoever I need to take care of, I don’t need none of this … You’re always being judged. You always got to live for someone else. You gotta be perfect, and nobody’s perfect.”

Davis then admitted that the animosity he feels towards opponents – perhaps a necessity to produce the sort of stunning knockouts he does – is something he would like to move away from.

“I’m the type of person if you go against me as a boxer, I don’t like you as a person. S**t like that I need to step away from, cause I don’t want to be like that. I feel as though I’m in it and if somebody is betting against me I feel like they want to stop my whole motion that I have going on. I don’t want to be like that. That’s why I’d rather step back on it and be on the cool side.”

Finally, 30-year-old Davis said that once of probation people may ‘never see him again.’

“At the end of 2025 I feel as though I should be more mature mentally, further than I am now. And I should be off of probation so I can travel the whole world. Once I can travel the whole world, people probably won’t ever see me again. I probably won’t be in America again.”

‘Tank’s final year in the sport begins with a title defence against Lamont Roach Jr on March 1 in Brooklyn, New York.

Olympic gold medallist and two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

The Comeback: Anthony Joshua's Ultimate Workout for RedemptionAs a gesture of goodwill, Anthony Joshua presented President Tinubu with an autographed boxing glove inscribed, “To the Great Asiwaju Jagaban Borgu of Africa, Bola A. The visit underscored Anthony Joshua’s strong ties to Nigeria, with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, also hosting the boxing icon at his office in Abeokuta. During the meeting, the governor announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in the state.

. Gervonta Davis has claimed he intends to retire after 2025. If this is true, who would you most want to see Tank fight?

Lee: The obvious answer is Shakur Stevenson. But as of recent, he has been throwing barbs about Devin Haney losing to Ryan Garcia. Bill Haney called out Davis after his son lost to Garcia. Haney is known for his technical style of fighting and above average defense. The question when fighting Davis is how do you deal with his speed, power and boxing IQ? Some people say Davis is the face of boxing… Even though he doesn’t own a signature win over a top rated fighter. Making this fight will require some give and take on both sides when it comes to boxing politics. But a Haney-Davis bout would pit two of the most skilled and exciting young fighters against each other.

Evan: I’m going to go with the obvious answer as Lee pointed out, it’s Shakur Stevenson. It’s a generational matchup with incredibly high stakes that would arguably decide who is the best fighter of this loaded era of talented young stars that compete between 130 to 140 pounds. The rivalry between them has grown throughout the years as well, only adding to the hype of a potential fight. The one caveat though, is Tank has been very dismissive of Shakur recently, and disparaging of his career thus far. So I’m not sure it’s a fight Davis will even entertain at this point.

The other two wildcards are Keyshawn Davis and Teofimo Lopez. Both would present interesting challenges to Tank. Lopez specifically; has the athleticism, moxie, craft, and a unique style that contrasts well with Davis’ combination of power and savvy fight IQ. Plus, the pre-fight banter between the two would be a potential shit show in the best way possible. Keyshawn on the other hand has the fearlessness and versatility to not be overwhelmed by Gervonta’s aura or skills. The Olympic silver medalist wants all the smoke. Seeing if he can rise to the occasion against Tank would be massively intriguing too.

#2. Who should Jake Paul fight?

Lee: Ryan Garcia is targeting a big fight upon his return and has hinted at a showdown against Jake Paul. Garcia originally won his last fight against Devin Haney, but it was later revealed he had failed two doping tests. Garcia has said he would be willing to contest at a weight disadvantage if the two agreed to a match. Ryan has fought at super lightweight (140 pounds). Paul weighed in at 227 pounds ahead of his bout with Mike Tyson. This fight would definitely be a battle of social media kings. Garcia has over 9m followers on Instagram, another 5m on TikTok and over 200K on X. Jake Paul has 22m Instagram followers, 17m on TikTok , over 4m on X and 20m on YouTube. This fight could possibly be the biggest gate in boxing history. Jake Paul has even said on record that he’s a better boxer than Garcia.

Evan: To be as blunt as possible, I truly don’t care who Jake Paul fights next. I’ve been over the circus act for a while now. Nothing about his gimmick or skills are interesting at all to me. However, I think Lee’s choice of Ryan Garcia is a sneaky good one that makes a ton of sense. I’d also throw in a potential Tommy Fury rematch as a top option. I wouldn’t even be surprised if retired former champs like Andre Ward or Carl Froch get a shot at Paul in 2025. Sadly too, I think we’re as close as we’ve ever been to Jake getting a fight with Canelo Alvarez or Conor McGregor. Both of which would be massive events, whether people like it or not.

#3. What matchups do you most want to see?

Lee: Not surprising, a showdown between generational stars Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford would be a big event. Boxing fans will say Canelo will be too big for Crawford, but I think Crawford’s skills should not be overlooked. Crawford didn’t look like his dominant self in his last appearance against Israil Madrimov. But, that could be attributed to ring rust and fighting at a new weight. Meanwhile, Canelo mowed through Edgar Berlanga rather easily. Crawford is looking for super fights at this point in his career. This is most likely the biggest payday and fight he can get. Canelo and his camp look at Crawford as another easy fight. Give me the better boxer over the bigger guy, like Usyk vs. Fury.

Evan: There’s so many quality matchups that could be made in 2025. Canelo Alvarez fighting the winner of David Benavidez-David Morrell Jr. would be a priority choice for me. It’s a unification bout that needs to happen, that fans desperately want to see. Although, I think Canelo’s stubbornness and insistence to not want to fight Benavidez specifically is an enormous obstacle in making that a reality. Terence Crawford vs. Teofimo Lopez is also a fascinating matchup that’s on my wish list. The bad blood between the two outside of the ring and the stylistic clash inside of it, are ingredients for a stellar fight. Additionally, I’d throw in a super fight between Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and Naoya Inoue. A rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is also at the top of my list.

#4. Who will be boxing’s breakout star/s?

Lee: Shakur Stevenson will be defending his World Boxing Council (WBC) Lightweight World Championship against the undefeated Floyd Schofield. If Schofield looks good and takes the loss, I see him being rewarded with credible future fights. If he were to win, his name would shoot to the moon. A rematch with Shakur would be on the plate with more money coming his way as the champ. Also, he could line up Frank Martin Jr. or Keyshawn Johnson. Schofield, with an undefeated record of 16 wins and 12 knockouts, is known for his aggressive style and ability to finish fights. He is already considered one of the most explosive prospects in boxing today. A good showing (win or lose) against Shakur would move him from prospect to future star.

Evan: The sport is currently loaded with a plethora of young talent. The future of boxing seems as bright as it’s ever been. My main pick for this is going to be Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez. Despite bursting out onto the scene the last two years by dismantling and finishing former flyweight champions, Carlos Cuadras, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Juan Francisco Estrada, and Sunny Edwards, he is only scratching the surface of his star potential. Rodriguez has the speed, power, angles, and craft that are reminiscent of a young Manny Pacquiao. 2025 feels like it could be the year where he establishes himself as a pound-for-pound great.

Some other names to watch out for would be Top Rank’s duo of Abdullah Mason and Xander Zayas. Both feel like they’re on the cusp of major breakthroughs. Lastly, Junto Nakatani seems like he could be the next big star to come out of Japan. Especially if he can get a matchup with pound-for-pound king and fellow Japanese stalwart, Naoya Inoue. 2025 might be Junto’s arrival as a household name…

#5. With Saudi Arabia’s growing influence on the sport, what are the biggest fights that Turki Alalshikh can help make a reality?

Lee: The biggest fight Turki Alalshikh can help make would be David Benavidez vs. Canelo Alavarez. Boxing fans are at a point where they know this fight is not going to happen. One thing we know for sure, is that Benavidez wants this fight. He was even willing to do a 70/30 split to make it happen. Canelo has been accused on multiple occasions of ducking Benavidez and has even named his outrageous price. He said it would take between $150 million and $200 million for the risk associated with the matchup. The risk he’s talking about, would be the 25 or 30 pounds that Benavidez could possibly weigh on fight day. This is an easy fix as well… A rehydration clause can be placed in the contract (see Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia).

Evan: I love Lee’s choice. If anyone can convince Alvarez to finally get in the ring with the Mexican Monster, it’s Turki Alalshikh and the Saudi’s endless bank account. I’m also going to stick with Canelo but choose a different opponent for him in Terence Crawford. That feels like a mega fight that hardcore boxing fans and casuals alike are frothing at the mouth to see. Alvarez’s resistance to the matchup in the past gives me doubts. But, it feels like Turki wants that fight to happen badly. I could easily see him making Canelo an offer he simply can’t refuse to create one of the biggest matchups we’ve seen in the last decade. I think a super fight between British boxing heavyweight titans, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, is another event the Saudi’s can help make happen. Now seems like the perfect timing for the long awaited grudge match.

Mike Tyson was in sensational shape for his fight with Jake Paul back in November – but the former heavyweight world champion has piled on the pounds over the festive period

Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson seems to be relishing some downtime after his boxing match with Jake Paul. The 58-year-old faced off against the YouTuber-turned-boxer in November, marking Tyson’s first professional bout since his loss to Kevin McBride in 2005.

However, he did participate in an exhibition match against legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr in 2020 before his face-off with ‘The Problem Child’. The fight with the 27-year-old was a significant challenge for ‘Iron Mike,’ primarily due to the vast age difference, necessitating serious preparation from the seasoned boxer.

Tyson wowed many with his toned physique ahead of the heavyweight clash. Although the American appeared sharp in training, his age was evident on fight night in Texas.

Despite not achieving a knockout, Paul sailed to a unanimous decision victory, extending his professional boxing record to 11-1. Seven weeks post-fight, Tyson has been enjoying a well-deserved break and appears to have put on some weight in recent footage.

After an intense and exhausting training camp, it seems that the American’s focus is no longer on the ring but on spending time with his family over the holiday season.

Before his defeat to Paul, Tyson confessed that he “almost died”. The legendary fighter took to Twitter and shared: “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”

Tyson was initially scheduled to face off against Paul in July, but the match was delayed due to Tyson experiencing a health scare during a flight. Speaking about the incident before the fight, Tyson told New York Magazine: “I was in the bathroom throwing up blood.”

He added, “I asked the doctor, ‘Am I going to die? ‘ He said, ‘We have options.’ Options? I couldn’t believe it. I had, like, eight blood transfusions. The doctor said I lost half my blood. I almost died.

“I lost 25 pounds in 11 days. Couldn’t eat. Only liquids. Every time I went to the bathroom, it smelled like tar. Didn’t even smell like —- anymore. It was disgusting. It threw me off [when I continued training].

“All my coordination, stamina, everything was hectic getting back. I was peaked already. I could have fought him that day. Now I got to start from scratch. I just don’t give up.”

Floyd Mayweather might face a big influencer in 2025, and it’s not Jake Paul

This year could mark the return of Floyd Mayweather to the boxing ring. The American boxer is reportedly set to have a bout in the upcoming months, and now a huge influencernot Jake Paul—could be selected as his next opponent.

For many analysts, there has never been a boxer as dominant as Floyd Mayweather. The American pugilist claimed multiple titles across various divisions, defeating some of the industry’s best fighters during their peak.

Report: Floyd Mayweather could face a world-renowned influencer in 2025

A few years ago, influencers began venturing into boxing to create content about their training and preparation for fights. Among them, Jake Paul has gained significant attention as he strives to become a top-tier professional boxer.

Speaking to Fred Talks Fighting, Jeff Mayweather, Floyd’s uncle, revealed that British YouTuber and entrepreneur KSI is seeking an exhibition bout with ‘Money’ this year.

Jeff stated that while KSI’s team has expressed interest and reached out, they need to finalize a deal soon. Otherwise, Floyd might opt for another option—like Pacquiao or Jake Paul—which could jeopardize KSI’s plans.

What is Floyd Mayweather’s net worth?

Floyd Mayweather’s net worth is estimated at $450 million as of 2025, per beIN Sports. Much of his wealth comes from an undefeated boxing career and record-breaking paydays, including $300 million from his fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Outside the ring, Mayweather earns from investments in real estate, clubs, and Mayweather Promotions. Despite his lavish lifestyle, he remains one of the wealthiest athletes in history.

Chael Sonnen isn’t buying the rumors of Conor McGregor and Logan Paul earning a staggering $250 million for an exhibition boxing match in India. On his YouTube channel, the UFC veteran expressed his skepticism, pointing out how such a figure seems wildly inflated compared to the earnings of some of the biggest names in combat sports.

Sonnen highlighted the reported payouts for top athletes like Tyson Fury ($60 million), Jake Paul ($40 million), and Canelo Alvarez ($50 million), questioning how McGregor’s fight with Logan Paul could command over four times those amounts. Even boxing icon Mike Tyson, one of the sport’s biggest draws, only made $20 million for his exhibition bout against Roy Jones jr.

“As absurd as that story is, the most absurd part is the unnamed Indian billionaire”

The rumored purse has raised plenty of eyebrows, with fans and analysts alike wondering if it’s more hype than reality. While McGregor and Paul are undoubtedly global superstars with massive fanbases, the idea of a $250 million payday seems far-fetched even by boxing’s often extravagant standards.

However, McGregor had earlier claimed that this fight was being done at the behest of the Ambani family.

This is the same family, that has Beyonce perform at their son’s wedding. So, paying an extravagant amount of money for a fight might not be that big of a stretch.

Whether the fight happens or not, one thing is clear: the buzz around McGregor vs. Paul is already generating headlines. However, Sonnen’s skepticism might be a reality check for anyone getting carried away by the eye-popping numbers.

Sonnen skeptical about McGregor vs. Paul

Beyond questioning the $250 million purse, Sonnen doesn’t believe the McGregor vs. Paul fight will take place at all.

In the same YouTube video, Sonnen pointed out the contractual obligations both fighters have, with McGregor tied to the UFC and Paul to the WWE—two entities now operating under the same parent company, TKO,

“And you believe that TKO, that needs them both, wants them both, promotes them both. You believe that TKO is going to allow not one, but two guys to go and do this? You’re gonna present it to the world as if it’s real.”

While the idea of a McGregor-Paul showdown might sound lucrative, Sonnen’s analysis raises valid concerns about the feasibility of such a crossover event.

TKO will have to allow two of its biggest stars to fight outside their contracts. McGregor is also still under contract with the UFC and White has not let any of his other fighters venture into boxing.

Sean O’Malley and Ilia Topuria have showcased interest in trying their hand at boxing but the UFC president has always poured water over their ideas.

To this day, McGregor remains the only fighter allowed to fight outside his contract, and that was only because he was fighting Floyd Mayweather.
