Fury made the decision less than a month after his world heavyweight title defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh.

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing.

“I’m going to make this short and sweet,” the British boxer said in a social media post on Monday. “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast.”

Tyson Fury retires: Former world champion announces retirement again - BBC SportFury’s announcement comes after he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in a unanimous decision on December 21 in their rematch, which saw the Ukrainian unify the heavyweight world titles.

Fury’s shock retirement is being treated with some scepticism. Back in April 2022, the “Gypsy King”, as he is widely known, said he was “done” with boxing after defeating Dillian Whyte, only to return months later to fight Derek Chisora.

If this is indeed the end of Fury’s boxing career, he leaves the sport with an impressive professional record of 34 victories, which includes 24 wins via knockout, one draw and two losses – with the two defeats at the hands of Usyk in the past year.

Prior to Monday’s announcement, the 36-year-old had been expected to return to the ring in 2025 in a blockbuster showdown against longtime British rival Anthony Joshua.

Floyd Mayweather and Muhammad Ali are two of the most significant figures in boxing history.

Ali was an enigma inside and outside of the ropes, bringing a fresh style to the heavyweight division with a supreme confidence and becoming a cultural icon for his actions away from the sport.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: I'm better than Muhammad Ali | FOX SportsThough ‘Money’ Mayweather hasn’t had the same impact as Ali away from the sport, he changed the game in many ways. Perhaps the best defensive fighter of all time, Mayweather claimed four of the top five biggest selling pay-per-view events ever on his way to a perfect 50-0 record and titles in five divisions.

Like Ali, his self-belief is unwavering. It perhaps doesn’t come as a surprise then that, when put to him by ESPN that Ali was the greatest fighter of all time, he had a simple response.

“It’s Floyd Mayweather.”

Elaborating, the 47-year-old looked at the criteria for the tag.

“What are we judging fighters on? If we’re judging them on standing up for a cause, then it’s Ali, hands down. But if we’re talking about taking less punishment and breaking all records then it’s Floyd Mayweather.

“Muhammad Ali paved the way for me to be where I’m at today. He’s a legend. But if we’re talking about record-breaking, we have to look at Ali losing his world title to a fighter with only seven fights [Leon Spinks].

“So, these are the things that we don’t look at. We only look at him standing up for a cause, which is the great thing because if Ali didn’t stand for that cause, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. So, I have to take off my hat to Ali. But I didn’t get into this sport for forty years to say there’s another fighter better than me.”

Floyd Mayweather Needed Just 3 Words When Asked If Muhammad Ali Is The Greatest Of All Time - Seconds OutMayweather doesn’t buy that the more thrilling the fight the better the fighter, rather that he proved he was the greatest by completely outclassing those who stepped in the ring with him.

“For me to be known as the best, I have to be in a drag-out, knockout fight? I can make the extraordinary look ordinary; that’s what’s so great about my career.”

Floyd Mayweather was quick to spend his reported $180million purse for fighting and beating Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather and Pacquiao met in the highest grossing boxing pay-per-view event of all time in May 2015, an event that generated unprecedented revenue.

A whole host of the biggest celebrity names flocked to Las Vegas to see the pair do battle, which saw Mayweather outbox Pacquiao to pick up a superb points victory.

It was a captivating battle that finally took place after years of rivalry, and the numbers behind the event were record-breaking.

How Floyd Mayweather Became Boxing's First $1 Billion FighterThe event generated in excess of $300m in total revenue, with Mayweather pocketing $180m of that.

Pacquiao took home a reported $120m payout, and it was life-changing fortune for both fighters.

Eventual winner Mayweather had been accustomed to living a life of luxury and extravagance, having left his promotional deal to start earning a small fortune from every time he stepped in the ring.

But his purse for beating ‘Pac Man’ was the highest of his career, and he couldn’t help but pick himself up a reward.

Mayweather announced five months afterwards that he had bought himself a new car to add to his frightening collection.

Mayweather bought a brand new black chrome 2015 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse.

The luxury vehicle had a custom-design and was worth a purchase value of $3.5m, which ‘TBE’ decided to fork out.

It is a vehicle capable of maximum speed of around 210mph, and was yet another supercar to add to his lucrative collection.

Floyd Mayweather's secret to success was ability to adapt, says welterweight prospect Dan Morley | Boxing News | Sky SportsMayweather is now reported to have a car collection worth around £20m in the present day, including the gift to himself in 2015.

His lucrative clash with Pacquiao set him up with generational wealth, and sent the magnitude of his profile into a new stratosphere.

But he wasn’t done at 48 victories without defeat as he decided to fight two more times to reach the magic 50-0.

Mayweather outpointed Andre Berto in a defence of his WBC welterweight title later that year.

And in a lucrative final bow, ‘Money’ came close to matching his lucrative Pacquiao victory in a huge event with Conor McGregor.

The 2017 clash saw him pick up a final victory against the Irish UFC star with a dominant stoppage win.

And he pocketed another purse around the $100m mark, after the event generated around $600m in total revenue.

It was the second highest of his career and as he retired, his lifestyle continued as luxury, but he has since also made a series of intelligent investments.

Mayweather has also been fighting in multiple lucrative exhibition outings, against the likes of Logan Paul, Deji and Aaron Chalmers.

Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather) / XAnd he has since claimed that he earns a mammoth $300m per month even after his professional career ended.

“I will continue to give back to the sport of boxing in my time, and I will also give back financially because I got it,” Mayweather said

“To my team, my guys in New York, and my other real estate team that’s here today, we can’t be stopped.

“In 32 months, I put myself in a position with a smart business team to make $300m a month. It all started from the sport of boxing.”

Having beaten both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk has a well informed view on what might happen were the two to meet.

When is Tyson Fury fighting Anthony Joshua? Dates, location reportedly set for heavyweight boxing title fight | Sporting NewsUsyk has cleared out all of the main competition in the heavyweight division in the last six years since moving up from cruiserweight. He left the weight class below as undisputed champion and recently repeated that feat at heavyweight. He twice beat Anthony Joshua to relive him of his three world titles and then defend them in a second fight, and wasn’t significantly hurt in either on his way to a brace of points victories.

After beating Daniel Dubois to defend his belts, Usyk then took on WBC champion Fury last May. He once again got a points win after landing the more significant punches across the 12-rounds, and in December he entered into a rematch with ‘The Gypsy King’ that went the same way. This time, he got a unanimous decision with all three ringside judges giving him the fight 116-112.

Speaking to Boxing King Media, Usyk exclaimed Fury gave him the harder fights but predicted an ‘Anthony Joshua on points’ victory should the two meet.

Tyson Fury Reveals His One Major Condition For Fighting Anthony Joshua After Usyk - Seconds OutThis is the natural next fight for these long time British rivals and would be a legacy defining contest that would be of great interest to fans.

Meanwhile, Usyk has many options. Plenty of people would happily see him retire given what he has achieved, although there is also clamour to see him take on Dubois once more to again unify all of the major belts.

Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis are currently three divisions apart but have competed in the same classes in the past.

Crawford kicked off his campaign at lightweight, where ‘Tank’ Davis is currently a world champion. He became undisputed at super-lightweight, where ‘Tank’ Davis has also won a belt.

Crawford has since continued to move up, clearing out the welterweight division before making his debut at 154 pounds last year. Davis remains back down at 135, holding the WBA World Title and knocking out all comers.

Gervonta Davis' Power Compared To Terence Crawford's By Sparring Partner: "He Kills You"The big hitter from Baltimore has said he would knock Crawford out in the past, perhaps tongue in cheek, but the bigger man has warned him not to punch above his weight. Whilst a fight is highly unlikely to ever take place, some believe it wouldn’t be a foregone conclusion.

In an interview with Real Lyfe Productions, multi-division world champion Roy Jones Jr said, “that’s a good damn fight,” clearly believing it would be competitive if the pair met just underneath the welterweight limit and giving ‘Tank’ a good chance due to one reason.

“I don’t see nobody around that’s gonna beat Bud unless it’s somebody way bigger than him, but don’t sleep on the fact that if him and Tank fought at about 145, that’s a good damn fight, you understand me?

He got no chance: Gervonta Davis claims to beat Terence Crawford in six roundsCause they both have very high IQs and Tank is very explosive. That’s the one thing that Tank got that Errol [Spence] didn’t have. In boxing, an explosive fighter can go a lot of places. I was only able to cover the weights that I covered because I was so explosive. Explosiveness keeps people in check.”

The two Americans will continue their campaign separately, with Crawford chasing a fight against super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez that would require a 14 pound jump, and ‘Tank’ out in March against Lamont Roach Jr before, according to his latest press conference, retiring at the end of the year.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has backed Anthony Joshua to defeat Tyson Fury when they eventually meet, insisting the British-Nigerian only needs to improve his self-confidence to return to the top, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Despite Joshua’s recent knockout defeat to IBF champion Daniel Dubois, Wilder believes a clash between the British rivals would go the distance, with Joshua emerging victorious if he can overcome his mental barriers.

“I can see Joshua beating him (Fury). It’s crazy to say, some people are like how do you see that?” Wilder said.

Anthony Joshua responds to Deontay Wilder's outburst to Tyson Fury | Boxing News | Sky Sports“But I can really see Joshua winning that fight, to be honest. If he goes in and does what he has to do and does not think so much. I think Joshua thinks a lot. He doubts himself a lot as well. I don’t think he has a lot of self-motivation or self-confidence.

“I think if he changes a few things mentally, he can come back and redeem himself more so than ever.”

The potential clash, which could generate over $300m in revenue, remains one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups despite both fighters losing their most recent bouts – Fury dropping consecutive decisions to Oleksandr Usyk while Joshua suffered the knockout defeat to Dubois.

Top Rank president Todd DuBoef believes the fight would bring Britain to a standstill, even without world titles on the line.

Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder: Lennox Lewis knows who would win“I think the brands are so strong,” DuBoef told Sky Sports. “In the UK, the country would stop for an hour to see what happens and I think that’s a wonderful thing. They’re like peanut butter and jelly, Joshua and Fury, they go together.”

Joshua, who recently visited Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, confirmed his interest in facing his British rival while at the state house.

“2025, I am targeting Tyson Fury,” the British-Nigerian said. “Time is of the essence, time is limited, so I just want to put in more work. When I look back, I believe I could have done more in 2024.”

Former world super-featherweight champion Barry Jones, however, disagrees with Wilder’s prediction, backing Fury to emerge victorious.

“Fury is a massive favourite but I think in general he was always a slight favourite (against Joshua),” Jones told the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast.

“He’ll want the Joshua fight because he’s beaten almost every fighter of his generation. It might be a different Joshua but it’s a different Fury. I think to get Joshua on his record in years to come will show how good he is.”

Boxing expert Steve Bunce warned that defeat could be devastating for either man’s legacy.

Claressa Shield has issued an expletive callout to Jake Paul.

Claressa Shields has claimed that she could beat Jake Paul in a boxing fight if the duo were to ever square off inside the ring.

UFC 300: Claressa Shields versus Jake Paul Full Fight Video Breakdown with Paulie GShields, widely regarded as the ‘GWOAT’, has built up an illustrious career since debuting in 2017. She is set to face Danielle Perkins on February 2.

Ahead of her upcoming bout, Shields is already seeking her next challenge and has set her sights on ‘The Problem Child’.

Speaking to USA Today, she said:

Claressa Shields claims she would beat up Jake Paul but would never degrade herself by fighting on one of hisI don’t know if it’s something that can happen, but I know that I can whip Jake Paul’s a** and people who are against that are just sexist and they don’t know boxing. It’s very strange to me that they think that a YouTuber can beat a woman boxer who has two Olympic gold medals, (multiple) world titles and fought as a heavyweight.

Shields fights at 175 lbs and has two Olympic gold medals, multiple boxing world titles, and more under her belt. She is 15-0-0 as a professional boxer and reckons Jake Paul doesn’t have the same wealth of experience as she does:

He does not have the experience. They talk about power. You can have power, but you got to have the skills to land a punch.

Shields is 29 years old while Paul is 27. ‘The Problem Child’ last fought Mike Tyson and currently has a record of 11-1-0. The purists, though, remain skeptical of the quality of opponents Paul has faced inside the squared circle.

Jake Paul’s camp is yet to respond to Claressa Shields’ latest remarks. Shields has previously challenged Paul to a fight on multiple occasions.

Mike Tyson Says 'Trouble With The Law' Is Only Similarity To Gervonta DavisGervonta “Tank” Davis is regarded as one of the most destructive fighters of his generation, carrying a legacy that often draws comparisons to the legendary Mike Tyson. With an undefeated record of 30-0, including 28 knockout victories, Davis has consistently demonstrated a level of power that leaves opponents sprawled on the canvas.

Davis’ fighting style—marked by calculated patience followed by explosive finishes—evokes memories of Mike Tyson in his “Kid Dynamite” days, when he dominated the heavyweight division with an astonishing streak of 19 consecutive knockouts.

While the comparisons between Davis and Tyson are inevitable, the former heavyweight champion himself has acknowledged the differences. When asked about his similarities with “Tank,” Tyson candidly replied, according to secondsout.com“I don’t know. Maybe just getting in trouble with the law. Other than that, no.”

In response, Davis took to social media with a concise and confident reply: “I agree. I have more skills.” This statement encapsulates Davis’ self-assuredness both in and out of the ring. Despite his respect for Tyson, Davis doesn’t hesitate to assert his own unique abilities and talent.

Preparing for the Next Chapter

Davis is currently gearing up to defend his WBA lightweight world title against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1. At a pre-fight press conference, he stunned the boxing world by announcing his intention to retire at the end of 2025.

Gervonta Davis Needed Just 4 Words To Respond To Mike Tyson Saying They Can't Be Compared - Seconds OutThe Legacy of “Iron” Mike and the Rise of “Tank”

In his prime, Mike Tyson was an unstoppable force in the heavyweight division. His combination of aggression, speed, and knockout power made him a global sensation. However, his career was also marked by personal challenges and periods of indiscipline.

Gervonta Davis, on the other hand, has displayed a similar destructive power, albeit in lighter weight classes. His patient yet explosive style has left an undeniable mark on modern boxing. However, like Tyson, Davis has faced his own controversies outside the ring, adding complexity to his story.

The Future of “Tank”

Davis’ announcement of his impending retirement at the end of 2025 has sparked speculation among fans. Will this truly mark the end of the “Tank” era, or is there more to come? Regardless of what lies ahead, Gervonta Davis has already solidified his place in the annals of modern boxing history.

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has opened up on the possibility of a fight against Tyson Fury, provided the Gypsy King doesn’t retire after his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk

Eddie Hearn has told Tyson Fury that the much-anticipated clash with Anthony Joshua could be arranged “immediately”.

Both British heavyweights are rebounding from title fight losses, with Joshua suffering a knockout by Daniel Dubois at Wembley and Fury losing to Oleksandr Usyk again just before Christmas. Despite both fighters arguably being beyond their peak years and no titles at stake, a bout between Joshua and Fury remains a tantalising and lucrative event.

When is Tyson Fury fighting Anthony Joshua? Dates, location reportedly set for heavyweight boxing title fight | Sporting NewsJoshua is keen on the match-up, while Fury’s next move remains uncertain following his recent defeat. Assuming Fury, 36, opts to continue fighting, Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has indicated that negotiations could commence without delay, hinting at Saudi Arabia as a probable venue.

“It’s the fight that everyone wants. Tell me a bigger fight? There isn’t one,” Hearn told The Stomping Ground on YouTube. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen.

“There have been no discussions. Fury’s coming off that defeat and after his break, he’s going to decide what he wants to do. If he wants to fight AJ, the fight happens immediately. We’ll see.”

Hearn added that now is not the time to pressure Fury’s team, saying: “I don’t think it’s the time to start prodding Tyson Fury. Don’t forget, he lost on December 21, so give him a few weeks to chill out.

That is when the conversations will come with Frank Warren, Spencer Brown [Fury’s manager] and His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] and say, ‘we want to make AJ-Fury what do you think? We’ll go from there.”

Claressa Shields is no stranger to making boxing history. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, she became the sport’s first two-division undisputed champion, male or female. It seems she has no intention of stopping there. The Flint, Michigan-born champion may now be aiming for the unprecedented achievement of becoming an undisputed champion in a third division.

Shields, who returned to MMA in February last year, surprised everyone with a move to the light heavyweight/heavyweight division. She fought Vanessa Lepage Joanisse for the WBO light heavyweight and WBC and WBF heavyweight titles. Latest reports suggest the five-division champion will begin the year with a title defense. Scheduled on February 2, she will face the Brooklyn-born heavyweight fighter Danielle Perkins. If Shields wins the fight, she could claim the historic undisputed title in the division and achieve a feat comparable to Oleksandr Usyk‘s, who ended a 25-year drought among men.
