Few boxers manage to walk away from the sport without being lured back at least once on the promise of big money.

No matter how successful a boxer’s career has been, calling it a day can be the hardest decision of all. Many boxers believe they still have what it takes to win or forget the losses which led them to hang up their gloves in the first place.

Only a select few men from the modern era have ever gone unbeaten in their whole careers, and they include Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe. Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis only suffered two defeats as a professional – against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman, but avenged both of those losses in rematches, making him one of the few boxers to retire having beat every man he ever faced.

Until Oleksandr Usyk repeated the feat in May, Lewis was the last undisputed heavyweight champion some 25 years ago.

He retired after a stoppage win over Vitali Klitschko in 2003 and has never before been tempted back.

However, in light of his former victim Mike Tyson taking on YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul in November in a fully sanctioned fight that will appear on both men’s records, Lewis has hinted that could change despite him being 58 years old.

Speaking to FOX 29 Philadelphia, he was confident his former foe would take the victory and was then asked if he would like to take on the winner.

“That’s a good question. I hope that Tyson saves a little bit of Jake Paul for me.”

This fight was first scheduled for July but an ulcer flare-up for Tyson delayed things. Since then, Paul has got back in the ring and secured another knockout win, this time over former bare-knuckle boxer and former UFC fighter Mike Perry.

Amir Tyson, the eldest son of legendary boxer Mike Tyson and Monica Turner, recently shared an emotional confession on Instagram that has struck a chord with many of his followers. Amir revealed that he recently lost his aunt Shawnda Wilkinson to cancer. A disease that causes millions of deaths worldwide annually, cancer is a terrifying disease that despite treatment, in many cases, consumes the patient.

Even Mike Tyson’s mother, Lorna Smith, passed away from cancer when the former boxer was only sixteen years old. This was also touched upon by Amir Tyson in his message.

Amir Tyson expresses his rage towards the horrible disease

Born on August 5, 1997, the 26-year-old shared a story on Instagram to express his feelings during his period of grievance. Not only did he pour his heart out, but he also voiced his frustration about the helplessness in situations like this. Amir wrote, “I’m crushed right now. My auntie died of cancer. If I ever find out there’s a cure for cancer that they don’t release I’m seeing red and losing my mind. I love you so much auntie @shawndawilkinson.”

Mike Tyson

He further mentioned how he never got to meet his paternal grandmother, Lorna Smith, either because the disease took her at an early age. He added, “Cancer is so fu**ing evil man. Love everyone I lost to cancer in my life. I never got to meet my paternal grandma because of lung cancer. Very upset right now.”

Although Amir Tyson lamented about not getting to meet his grandmother, Mike Tyson has a different take on this. He believes that his mother’s absence was “one of the best things” that ever happened to him.

Mike Tyson opens up about the passing of his mother

Iron Mike was one of Lorna Smith’s four children. After their father abandoned them, Lorna was left to look after the kids. The family didn’t reside in the best neighborhood for raising children – Brownsville, Brooklyn. Therefore, Tyson was involved in robberies and other crimes from a very young age. That is until Cus D’Amato, his first coach, took him under his care.

In 1982, when Tyson was with D’Amato, Lorna passed away from cancer. While talking to ClubShayShay in an interview, Tyson revealed, “You know, one of the best things that ever happened to me is that my mother died. Because my mother would have babied me. There’s no way I would ever got into a street fight. No way I would ever learn to stand up for myself.”

Despite the fact that growing up without his mother shaped who he is now, he still has resentments. The former heavyweight champion went on to say that he had never seen his mother being pleased or proud of him. Never did he get a chance to speak with her fully. Tyson concluded by saying, “Professionally, it has no effect, but it’s crushing emotionally and personally.”

Mike Tyson was shot as a boxer 20 years ago and shouldn’t fight Jake Paul later this year.

That’s according to heavyweight Joey Dawejko, who has become the latest man to condemn the upcoming bout between the two men.

Tyson had been due to fight Paul on July 18. However, after suffering an ulcer flare up, the showdown was pushed back to later in the year instead.

The bout was at risk of falling through before the weekend, with Paul needing to beat Mike Perry to ensure the big event in November goes ahead.

But the 27-year-old cruised to victory over his opponent, winning via knockout to boost his standing in the sport.

Many have been critical of the decision to stage a fight between Tyson and Paul. With the boxing icon now 58, there’s a huge 31-year age gap between the two men.

And Dawejko, speaking to World Boxing News, has become the latest man to vent his fury over the clash taking place.

“I think it’s just a money grab for both of them. So I don’t really think too much of it,” he said.

“No, I don’t. Even though it’s a fight at two-minute rounds, Tyson was shot 20 years ago when he fought Kevin McBride.

“There’s no reason for him to be still competing in a ring. The only reason for him to be in a gym these days is to stay healthy.”

Both Paul and Tyson insist the fight will go ahead, despite the backlash.

Paul, speaking after his win over Perry, said his opponent was ‘back’ and already working hard to ensure he’s in the best shape possible.

“Mike Tyson is training, he’s back, looking crazier than ever,” he said.

“I’m going to get another KO and prove everyone wrong once again.

“Everyone said I was an idiot for taking this fight, that I was risking it but this is why I’m here, I take big risks.

“Mike, I love you but this is my sport now.

“You’re a legend, you’re one of the two most famous boxers ever to live, you and Muhammad Ali.

“It’s an honour to get in the ring with you.

“I’m so, so honoured; you’re a legend, but I’m going to take your throne.”

With Paul beating Perry, he has now won 10 of his 11 fights – with a defeat to Tommy Fury last year the only time he’s failed to come out on top.

As for Tyson, the 58-year-old has won 50 of his 58 career bouts.

He last fought back in 2020, with his showdown with Roy Jones Jr ending in a draw.

The WNBA All-Stars are showing out Thursday on the Orange Carpet in Phoenix. Even amid the excitement, Fever phenom Caitlin Clark found the time to pay her fellow rookie and rival Angel Reese a huge compliment.

The pair are neck-and-neck in the race for Rookie of the Year, and both are coming off massive achievements in the first half of the WNBA season. Clark set the league’s single game assist record with 19 against the Wings on Wednesday, while Reese recently broke Candace Parker’s record for longest double-double streak in WNBA history at 15 games.

Clark and Reese will play on the same team for the first time Saturday as All-Stars, a pairing sure to excite every women’s basketball fan. Here’s what Clark had to say about her Sky counterpart on the Orange Carpet.

What did Caitlin Clark say about Angel Reese on the Orange Carpet?

Clark was asked for her thoughts on playing with Reese in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game on the Orange Carpet. The 22-year-old Fever guard was very open in her response.

“It’s obviously rare to have two rookies in the All-Star Game. The fans are super excited about it and I think it’s really good for the W,” Clark said. “Obviously she’s having an incredible year. She’s probably going to lead the game in rebounds, I expect that out of her. That’s just what she does. It should be fun.”

Clark leads the WNBA in assists at the All-Star break with 8.2 per game, while Reese sits second in rebounds with 11.9 per game, second only to Aces star and MVP front-runner A’ja Wilson (12.0).

The duo share had a friendly rivalry going back to their days facing off in the NCAA, notably in the 2023 national championship and the 2024 Elite Eight. Reese won the title with LSU in 2023, but Clark and Iowa won the rematch in 2024 before falling to South Carolina in the tournament final.

All that being said, the emphasis in the rivalry is on friendly, and Clark and Reese will likely make a great duo on the court Saturday. Clark and Reese will play for Team WNBA, which will face off against Team USA as in a pre-Olympic tune-up.

Caitlin Clark All-Star Game outfit

The Orange Carpet is as much for the All-Stars to show off their style as it is for them to do press and pose for photos.

Clark showed out, wearing an Armani dress, Versace shoes and a Versace bag, along with Tiffany and Cartier jewelry. Like the rookie’s demeanor, her outfit is nothing too flashy, but it is classy nonetheless.

Zhilei Zhang has claimed Anthony Joshua will never give him a rematch in the professional ranks.

Zhang and Joshua met for the first time at the London Olympics in 2012, where the Briton won by decision after dropping the Chinese star to the canvas with a crunching shot.

The pair have not yet met as professionals, with AJ currently focusing on his mission to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

And ‘Big Bang’ believes it will never happen due to Joshua’s recent selection of opponents.

Zhang told the MMA Hour: “Mark my words, he’s not fighting me. He’s not going to fight me, ever.

“Because after the 2012 Olympic Games, that was when we initially collided.

“After that, it’s been so many years. I was with Matchroom [Boxing] and I know what happened. I don’t think he’s ever going to fight me.

“My managers flew to London and I got words. So I don’t think he’s going to fight me.

“Look at his previous opponents – Francis Ngannou from the UFC, Robert Helenius, I don’t think he has what it takes to stand up to me.

“The way he picks his opponents says a lot about him. Neither does Eddie [Hearn] want it. He’s [AJ] a cash cow for Eddie.

Anthony Joshua

“My managers got an invitation, flew to London to talk to them, and got a no.

“I don’t know why. I don’t have a reason. That’s his problem. But if he ever wants to fight, I’m in.”

A showdown has always been teased between the pair with Joshua having explored the option of facing Zhang on multiple occasions.

This includes for his upcoming fight, after the Chinese star dispatched of Deontay Wilder in June.

But Joshua has now received a title shot for the IBF belt against Daniel Dubois on September 21.

Zhang has yet to pencil in his next outing, but is coming to the end of his career at the age of 41.

He will be hoping for a final hoorah for a title, when the option comes up with Usyk and Daniel Dubois currently holding the belts.

Heavyweight contender Zhilei Zhang believes old amateur rival Anthony Joshua has long been ducking him and won’t fight him in the future.

Back when both men were being promoted by Eddie Hearn, and Joshua held versions of the heavyweight title, a defence against Zhang in China was frequently mentioned. But the reunion of 2012 Olympic rivals never materialized.

Zhang’s stock has risen since those days. He twice defeated Joe Joyce and, when representing Queensberry at the June ‘5 v 5’ event, he knocked out Deontay Wilder who was moonlighting for Matchroom. Zhang, however, has inferred that Joshua never fancied the fight and won’t do so in the future.

“Mark my words, he’s not fighting me. He’s not going to fight me, ever,” said Zhang when speaking on The MMA Hour. “Because after the 2012 Olympic Games, that was when we initially collided. After that, it’s been so many years. I was with Matchroom, and I know what happened. I don’t think he’s ever going to fight me.”

Joshua recently faced former UFC world champion Francis Ngannou in a professional boxing match. The fight was a mismatch, with Joshua securing a devastating finish in the second round. Zhang believes Joshua’s choice of opponents in recent fights shows that he would rather take on easier opposition than face the 280-pound southpaw.

“My managers flew to London, and I got words. So, I don’t think he’s going to fight me. Look at his previous opponents – Francis Ngannou from the UFC, Robert Helenius, I don’t think he has what it takes to stand up to me. The way he picks his opponents says a lot about him.”

Anthony Joshua‘s team is furious with Daniel Dubois, alleging that Dubois has failed to sign up for additional drug testing ahead of their upcoming fight.

The former sparring partners are set to clash for the IBF heavyweight title in September at Wembley Stadium. However, Joshua’s camp has claimed that Dubois has not yet enrolled for testing with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).

On Tuesday, Joshua’s team tweeted: “Evening @Queensberry… any update on why @DynamiteDubois isn’t signed up for @Vada_Testing yet??”

In response, Queensberry Promotions replied: “Daniel is enrolled as VADA will confirm.”

This controversy follows a heated exchange between Joshua and Dubois during a joint interview ahead of their September 21 title fight. Tensions flared when Dubois asserted that he was ready to “go now” if Joshua “wants to swing.”

Joshua retorted, “Shut up, relax. I’ll throw this f***ing chair across your face. Don’t disrespect me.”
Dubois tried to stay composed, responding, “You can’t intimidate me, who do you think you are?”

This exchange escalated to the point where Joshua got out of his seat, and the two fighters had to be separated by security as promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn watched.

Joshua continued, “Daniel, don’t disrespect me or I’ll put this chair through your face. Warn this little boy not to disrespect me. I don’t take disrespect lightly, you know. Don’t sit on the table telling me we can go now, telling me this and that.”

Promoter Frank Warren commented, “This was serious. We don’t need any stunts to sell this fight.”

Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang has spoken out against former two-time world champion Brit Anthony Joshua, expressing his interest in fighting him.

Zhilei said in an interview with MMA Hour:

Joshua last stepped into the ring against Francis Ngannou in March of this year. That fight, which was stopped in the second round, ended in favor of Anthony by knockout. He has 28 wins (25 by knockout) and three losses on his record.

On the night of June 2 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) Zhang won by knockout in the fifth round over American Deontay Wilder. He has 27 wins (22 by knockout), two losses and one draw on his record.

Tyson Fury co-starred in the first undisputed heavyweight clash in over two decades this year, losing out on a split decision to Oleksandr Usyk.

Before the fight was made, the Brit’s team came under fire from some corners of the boxing world for matchmaking, choosing a voluntary defence against Derek Chisora in late 2022 before returning ten months later to face former UFC Champion and boxing debutant, Francis Ngannou.

During that time, Fury said that nobody was willing to step up and face him, including former unified champion Andy Ruiz Jr. The Mexican-American – who was ranked highly with the WBC at the time – was accused of pricing himself out, with claims that he asked for $20 million for the bout.

Speaking to Cornerman Boxing, Ruiz Jr said that it was a lie to cover up the fact that Fury was afraid to fight him.

“Tyson Fury – everybody kept saying that I was asking for too much money. Everything was a lie, bro. That’s what I know that people are scared to fight me. That’s why I gotta be 100%.

Yes [I think Fury is scared]. Everybody is. Everybody is always gonna underestimate this little man. It’s gonna be hard. With my style it’s a little hard to adapt to.”

A fight between the pair couldn’t seem further away at this point, with Fury set to rematch Usyk in December and Ruiz to return from a near-two year layoff to face Jarrell Miller on August 3.

Should he win, the 34-year-old is adamant he still wants the fight as well as a challenge against Usyk and a trilogy with Anthony Joshua – the man he won three belts from before losing them back in an immediate second fight.

Anthony Joshua has no doubt about who he considers to be the best boxer ever to lace up the gloves as he immediately went with American Legend Muhammad Ali when speaking to Men’s Health.

“Historically, Ali. By a mile,” Joshua said.

After a gold medal-laced amateur career, Ali beat George Foreman, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier and Earnie Shavers in a 61-fight campaign. The undisputed heavyweight champion formerly known as Cassius Clay left his mark not just on the sport but culture entire.

Meanwhile, Joshua can rightly claim that he has been one of the standouts of the current era. He quickly rose through the amateur ranks to become an Olympic Gold Medalist at London 2012 just a couple of years after picking up the sport rather late aged 18.

Once he turned professional, Joshua went on an impressive run of early knockouts, including picking up the British title with a stoppage of Dillian Whyte back in December 2015.

His first world title came with another stoppage, this time of Charles Martin, and he unified with wins over Joseph Parker, who was the first man to take him the distance, and a stoppage of long-reigning champion Wladimir Klitschko.

After some routine defences he hit his first stumbling block in New York’s Madison Square Garden when he was halted by underdog and late stand-in Andy Ruiz Jr, though quickly exacted revenge in the rematch.

2021 and 2022 proved difficult years with back-to-back losses to the eventual undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk, though since then he has got back to winning ways with a trip of stoppages over Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Francis Ngannou.

Next up for Joshua is a shot at becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion when he takes on Daniel Dubois for the IBF title at Wembley in September. That is a feat only repeated at heavyweight by Ali, who was also undisputed champion from 1974 to 1978 and is often considered one of the greatest sportsmen of the last century.
