ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Claressa Shields is still undecided on whether she will remain at heavyweight after she takes on Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse on Saturday night, but she is open to staying in the division and becoming undisputed champ if she can get the major fights to happen.

“My goals that I have for boxing are way bigger than what everyone else can see. Everybody wants me to retire right now. I’m about to have 15 world titles, be a four-time division champion, and they’re like what else can you do? But for me, it’s plenty more you can do,” she told ESPN at the Detroit Lions’ training camp, where she visited Thursday. “There’s always going to be somebody to fight unless all the girls in the world are like, ‘Look Claressa, we’re just not fighting you,’ but that’s not going to happen because all of these girls are competitive, and they want to prove themselves. So, I’m always going to have a fight.”

Shields, the self-proclaimed GWOAT (“Greatest Woman Of All Time”), is moving up to heavyweight in an attempt to win a world title in a fourth weight class.

Lepage-Joanisse (7-1, 2 KOs) is the current WBC heavyweight champion. The vacant WBO heavyweight title will also be on the line Saturday at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Shields (14-0, 2 KOs) doesn’t anticipate the fight to go the distance. It is set for 10 rounds.

“I am predicting a KO. … But with this one, fighting at heavyweight, if you want to go with Round 5, you can go with Round 5, and if you’re feeling lucky, you can bet on Round 7,” Shields told ESPN. “She’s supposed to be the heavyweight, but I think that

her underestimating me is why the fight will actually end in a knockout because she’s not expecting me to hit as hard as I hit and that’s what I like.”

Shields will be entering the ring for the first time in over 13 months, when she defended her undisputed middleweight titles with a decision win over Maricela Cornejo at 160 pounds on June 3, 2023.

Although she is ranked No. 1 on the ESPN women’s pound-for-pound list and is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, the 29-year-old doesn’t feel that her greatness is truly appreciated among fans.

“I worry about appreciating me. And I do,” Shields said. “I feel like I haven’t got my utmost respect yet, but I know that I respect myself and I know that

everything I’ve accomplished has been off grit and hard work and nobody can take that away from me.

“I think that it’s getting close to being appreciated. Right now, I can’t focus on who appreciates it and who don’t,” she said. “I’ve got to make sure that I appreciate my greatness. I think that people look for too much validation from other people. I feel like if you live by the compliments you will die by the insults. We all know that fans are up and down.”

During her visit at training camp, Shields shared boxing tips with All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown as he walked off the practice field.

She was challenged to a sparring session by rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold. She also received a pep talk from coach Dan Campbell and posed for pictures with her numerous world title belts alongside owner Sheila Ford Hamp at the newly named Meijer Performance Center.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) is the current WBA lightweight champion and was last seen when he defeated Frank Martin on June 15 this year. It remains to be seen what comes next for “Tank” as Dan Rafael reveals via his Fight Freaks Unite Substack that Gervonta Davis could be facing WBA super featherweight titlist and promotional free agent Lamont Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) on Dec.21 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Davis Eyeing Major December Bout Against World Champion

According to the report from Rafael, there were discussions for “Tank” to headline a PBC Prime Video pay-per-view event on Nov. 2, which has now been ruled out with Nov. 23 or Dec. 14 looking more likely. A third date has emerged as a possibility with December 21 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. presenting itself with WBA super featherweight champion Roach prepared to step up in weight to take on the unbeaten Baltimore fighter.

IBF champion Vasiliy Lomachenko had been the preferred opponent and had many in the boxing world dreaming of a fascinating unification match-up. PBC and Top Rank were said to be working on a deal when Lomanchenko decided to take off the rest of the year, leaving “Tank” to look elsewhere. Jose Valenzuela defeating Issac Cruz took the “Pitbull” fight away and a possible Valenzuela fight didn’t create much interest.

A fight against Roach in Washington would seemingly generate big interest with Roach from D.C. and Davis from nearby Baltimore. The two met in a 2011 amateur contest which “Tank” won via a three-round decision.

OLEKSANdr usyk VS TYSON FURY

December 21 Competition

The December 21 option against Roach is seemingly the likely option for the PBC PPV card. On that day will be the PPV between Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II, which would seemingly garner the most interest in the boxing world.

ANTHONY JOSHUA is one win away from a potential HALF-A-BILLION-POUND Tyson Fury two-fight mega deal.

Victory for Watford’s 34-year-old Olympic legend, over Daniel Dubois tonight at a 96,000 sell-out Wembley, will make him the hottest ticket in boxing.

JUST IN: Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury disagree with their predictions for Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois…

ANTHONY JOSHUA VS Daniel Dubois

And – as long as Fury isn’t violently knocked out and injured in the Oleksandr Usyk rematch on December 21 – the wheels are already in motion for FINALLY making the fight everyone in England wants to see.

Our AJ may dream of getting one back on the 37-year-old Ukraine icon who dominated him twice to snatch away his WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

And a win over 27-year-old Dubois – with bright young trainer Ben Davison – would rightly make him a confident boost about a shot of revenge

But outside of Team AJ and cheerleader Eddie Hearn – there is no clamour at all to see Joshua vs Usyk 3 – especially when the best he can do is drag it back to 2-1 against a man who would be pushing 40 with four kids indoors to worry about.

For all of AJ’s incredible success and downright decency – London 2012’s legacy, his singlehanded revolution of British boxing, and saving of hundreds of local gyms with personal donations in lockdown, when the Government left the sport to die – it is a stain on his record that he never faced a peak and and undefeated Fury or Deontay Wilder.

He has been the golden goose and the cash cow in a sport that is usually a bit of a pigsty – his status as a British sport legend is cemented for eternity.

But across the Pond in America – which will return as the boxing Mecca when Saudi get bored or achieve their goal with funding fights – he is seen as a dud.

Deontay Wilder VS Tyson Fury AND Oleksandr Usyk

The violent knockout loss on his one and only trip to the Big Apple, left a bitter taste over there and snatching a win back over Usyk will not help his reputation outside of his diehard fans.

But if he hangs up his gloves with the Gypsy King and Wilder on his record, then people will have the right to frown when his name is mentioned among the pantheon of greats.

But two great Fury fights – each likely to do around 2m pay-per-view sales at a guess of £30-a-pop – with one likely to sell out a 100,000 seater UK stadium at an average of maybe £500 a ticket – would be a spectacle right up there with the Fight of the Century, Thrilla in Manilla and Rumble in the Jungle.

The world will stop to watch the build-up – let alone the fight.

Imagine the antics John Fury would get up to, what Team Fury’s Brady Bunch of brothers and pals would say to AJ and his boardroom brotherhood.

The brilliant old stories will be dragged up.

The 2010 sparring session at Finchley where rising pro Fury offered his Rolex watch to any man who could floor him and an uppercut from the reformed bad-boy bricklayer almost clocked him.

The fight was almost made twice but collapsed over money and ego.

The bizarre time they bumped into each other in Marbella and – despite all his tirades and taunting – Fury was polite to his verbals victim.

Us hacks will definitely drag up the hilarious times Fury would video call Joshua totally unannounced and wind him up.

Carl Froch will back Fury and say Joshua is useless, John Fury will offer Froch a fight.

Wladimir Klitschko will land back on the scene and support Joshua.

It would be magnificent, hilarious, historic, slapstick, tense, dark and drenched in Saudi slush funds.

And every man, woman, child and dog and duck will want to be there – the trendies who reckons Oasis were never that good – might pretend they don’t care.

Will Gervonta Davis stay unbeaten and keep his world title against Frank Martin?

Gervonta “Tank” Davis returns to the ring on Saturday to face Frank Martin in a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view main event.

JUST IN: Gervonta Davis names best fighter he has ever faced but still thinks he was ‘a level above’….

Tank will be defending his WBA lightweight title in the fight, and we’ll also have plenty more action this weekend.

We’ve got our predictions in for Tank vs Frank and much more! Read on!

GERVONTA TANKS DAVIS

Who wins Gervonta “Tank” Davis vs Frank Martin?

Scott Christ (27-5)

I think Martin will be in this fight on the cards for a while. I expect Davis to be tentative and calculating, as he pretty much always is, and he’ll feel out Martin’s speed, timing, and defensive responsibility for half the scheduled distance. But Tank has the game-changing power, and Martin doesn’t. It will make the ultimate difference, but it won’t be the only thing. Tank’s just a better fighter. Davis TKO-10

Wil Esco (20-12)

I have already alluded to this in some previous posts but while Martin will come into this fight focused and in shape, I think the experience disparity will play a part in this fight. I think this is important because Martin isn’t a really big puncher so this fight will likely make its way into the back half. Once we start getting to the later rounds I believe Tank will have already started to wear on Martin and it will be a matter of time before he gets caught with a big one that spells the end for Martin. Basically, I think Martin hangs tough early and gets drummed out late. Davis TKO-9

John Hansen (21-11)

Tank Davis is an eye test great, but his fame and financial leverage make his greatness mostly eye test only. He won’t fight anyone that’s a real threat unless it’s on inequitable terms or timing.

SEE MORE: Gervonta Davis’ trainer has no fear and challenges Floyd Mayweather to a fight against Tank…

GERVONTA TANKS DAVIS

Frank Martin didn’t seem to really want this fight a year ago, but finances or a lack of other options have brought him to it now. Should we expect a shock upset in the matchup between the guy who didn’t want it in the first place and the guy who wouldn’t have taken it if there were any serious doubts about the outcome? No. Davis TKO-8

Patrick Stumberg (23-9)

I really think Martin’s going to make Davis work. His speed is among the best in the division, his jab is crisp, his body attack is nasty, and there’s no telling how Davis’ layoff and stint in jail will affect his performance. If Davis’ timing isn’t there, I can definitely see Martin building an insurmountable lead.

At the same time, it’s hard to get over how thoroughly Artem Harutyunyan blunted Martin’s offense with raw aggression. Davis isn’t that sort of swarmer, obviously, but that F**k-You Power of his puts the fear of God into people real quick.

I see this going somewhat like Davis’ fight with Garcia. Martin comes out hot and banks a few rounds before a big punch shells him up and gives Davis the breathing room he needs to find the killshot. Davis TKO-7

Despite a good showing early on, ‘The Gypsy King’ was caught in the eighth, causing a nose injury and a torrid ninth round. He went on to lose on the scorecards via split decision.

The initial fight date was postponed when Fury was badly cut in sparring – something Derek Chisora told TalkSPORT affected his preparations even for the rescheduled date.

“When Tyson fights, he fights for himself, when Usyk fights, he fights for his country. I don’t think Tyson was 100% when he walked into that ring. He had a massive cut. He didn’t want to get fined for missing the fight so he didn’t spar like he wanted to spar. He was under-prepared. I think Usyk stops him this time.”

Promoter Frank Warren refuted those claims to TalkSPORT ahead of the rematch in December.

Fury has said he was enjoying himself too much in the fight and that he will remain switched on for the rematch in December.

One keen onlooker is Anthony Joshua who fights Daniel Dubois this weekend and hopes a win will get him a shot at an undisputed fight with whoever comes out on top of Fury and Usyk.

What do you think about the bond between Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara? O’Meara calls him “little brother” meanwhile they have also played alongside him for years. While it might be hard to describe their relationship, both golfers shared a lot of stories together. Here is one of them from 2020.

JUST IN: Report: Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus were involved in plan to put golf courses in Florida state park…

Although the story dates back to 2002, John Cook shared it with Golf Digest four years back. In that year, Woods had already won the Masters and the U.S. Open and was getting ready for the Open Championship at Muirfield. The incident occurred at the back of the range at Isleworth, where Mark O’Meara and John Cook were attempting to hit 3-irons to a green about 220 yards away.

TIGER WOODS

While further talking about it Cook said “We had played Bethpage, and unlike Tiger, every hole for us was like a driver and 3-iron or 4-iron or even a wood. So we’re trying to get the ball up higher with our 3-irons, just seeing if we can launch them.” As it happened Tiger Woods joined them after a six-mile run and he wasn’t wearing a shirt. “He’s got no shirt on, he’s wearing sunglasses, his hat is turned backward and he’s sweating like crazy. He sees us, and he stops to watch, but he doesn’t say anything,” Cook said.

However, the 15x major winner didn’t wait and asked “Hey, what are you guys working on?”. Cook said talking about it “We tell him we’re trying to hit these longer clubs higher in the air. So he says to me, “Let me see your 3-iron.” And guess what happened next? As you might have guessed he hits this 3-iron not at the green Mark and Cook were aiming at but at the next green, about 245 yards out.

Tiger Woods did this without a practice swing. Following that “He flew it right into the middle of that green, handed the club back to me, and said, “Just do that.” Mark and I looked at each other like, We’re trying to beat that? I put the club back in my bag and said, “I’m going to go over here and putt more; maybe that will help,” concluded John Cook.

Interestingly, there is around a 19-year age gap between Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara. Despite that O’Meara calls him a little brother and they have shared a lot of moments on the greens. Surprisingly, Woods even once helped O’Meara to win a hole at the 1998 but at the Cisco World Match Play Championship. Not only O’Meara has witnessed Woods’s skill they also share an awkward yet memorable moment.

The memorable moment between Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara

Tiger Woods

It happened in 1998 during the Masters. There is a tradition at the Augusta National that the prior year’s champion sticks around for the weekend, regardless of whether or not he makes the cut, to honor the next Masters champion with a green jacket. Tiger Woods had won the 1997 Masters and was ready to honor O’Meara, who had just secured his first major victory. However, there is a height difference between these two and it created a memorable moment for them.

During the green jacket ceremony, Mark O’Meara was unable to get his arm into the jacket and it kind of created an “awkward situation” for him. Later Mark O’Meara revealed further about it and said ‘Hey, you gotta lower the jacket.’ And so he did, and I got my arms in there and he gave me a hug.” Although O’Meara is set to retire after the PURE Insurance Championship this year, he has 16 PGA Tour wins including two majors to his name. Aside from that he also shares a deep bond with golfers, especially, Tiger Woods throughout these years.

What do you think of Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara’s bond? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!

Newly released footage shows the women’s gymnastics judges at the Paris Olympics floor routine final neglected to process a request from U.S. coaches for a review of Simone Biles’ routine. Had the request been considered and her score changed with what the U.S. coaches saw, it likely would have resulted in Biles taking gold.

JUST IN: Simone Biles demands ‘justice’ for Jordan Chiles continues to reel from court’s decision to strip her of her Olympic bronze and award it to Romanian rival…

SIMONE BILES

Biles initially won silver with a score of 14.133, just 0.333 points behind Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, who won her second Olympic gold after a famed comeback from three ACL tears.

The footage, submitted to the Swiss Federal Tribunal as part of a court case involving American teammate Jordan Chiles’ attempt to claim bronze in the event, was released to the public in an official Swiss court filing.

It shows Biles asking coach Cecile Landi if he’s asking the judges about her appeal. The coach’s wife, Laurent Landi, replied to Biles, saying, “He said he did.”

Laurent was then heard speaking French before Cecile turned back to Biles and said, “They didn’t send it.”

Biles was penalized 0.6 points for stepping outside of the competition mat. If she had she gotten full credit for her split leap, it would have given her an additional 0.10 in difficulty and a 14.233. That would have put her ahead of Andrade, who scored a 14.166.

If Biles had won gold in that event, the U.S. would have finished with 41 gold medals at the Paris Games and in sole possession of the gold medal lead. Instead, the U.S. settled for a tie with China at 40 golds.

It also would have taken away one of the many highly discussed moments of the Paris Olympics, when Chiles and Biles bowed down to Andrade on opposite sides of the medal podium. It was, before further review, the first all-Back gymnastics podium in Olympic history.

Biles responded to the footage in a post on X Wednesday, saying she is happy with the outcome and is more focused on Chiles’ court case.

“Rebeca had a better floor anyways, upsetting how it wasn’t processed, but I’m not mad at the results,” Chiles wrote. “BUT JUSTICE FOR JORDAN.”

SIMONE BILES

Biles has won more Olympic medals than any gymnast in U.S. history with 11, seven of them being gold with team events included. Her 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals make her the most decorated gymnast in history.

The video was provided to Chiles by the director of Biles’ latest documentary project, “Simone Biles: Rising,” on Netflix. Director Katie Walsh and production company Religion of Sports, which received permission to film Biles and her team during Olympic competition. This footage has now been released to help Chiles in her case for the bronze medal, which was stripped and given to Romania’s Ana Barbosu at the end of the Paris games.

According to court documents filed in the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland Monday, Chiles’ attorney has submitted footage from the company producing Biles’ Netflix series that they allege shows visual evidence in favor of Chiles. They claim the footage proves that the request for the review that bumped Chiles’ score up was not submitted past the deadline, according to multiple reports.

Jordan Chiles VS SIMONE BILES

Barbosu had initially clinched the bronze medal for floor and began celebrating on the mat. But then U.S. coaches appealed to judges over Chiles’ score, and a review resulted in a 0.1-point increase, which moved Chiles ahead of Barbosu for the bronze medal.

The initial ruling resulted in a wave of backlash. Gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci criticized the scoring change on social media, and Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said he would boycott the Paris Olympics’ closing ceremony over the scoring decision.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later ruled the judging panel at the event had improperly granted an inquiry that increased Chiles’ score. The next day, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) ruled Chiles would have to return the medal. However, multiple reports indicate she hasn’t and won’t return it.

Chiles’ lawyers have argued that the CAS, which made the final ruling, “violated Chiles’s fundamental ‘right to be heard’ by refusing to consider the video evidence that showed her inquiry was submitted on time — in direct contradiction to the findings in CAS’s decision.”

Her lawyers also claimed that CAS President Hamid G. Gharavi had a conflict of interest. Gharavi acted as counsel for Romania for nearly a decade and had been an active representative of the nation at the time of the CAS decision to strip Chiles of her medal.

Chiles gave her first sit-down interview about the incident during a panel at the Forbes Power Women’s Summit 2024 Wednesday. The gymnast noticeably choked up when she was asked about the topic.

“To me, everything that has gone on is not about the medal, it’s about, you know, my skin color,” Chiles said, tearing up.

Dubois defends his IBF heavyweight title against Joshua on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium.

Both boxers enter the contest in good form and have significantly shifted the narratives around them heading into fight night.

Dubois was labelled a ‘quitter’ by several members of the boxing fraternity after seeing out counts on one knee against Usyk and Joe Joyce.

However, gutsy wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic in his last two outings have gone a long way in changing people’s minds about his heart.

Similarly, Joshua was criticised for being ‘gunshy’ following his knockout loss to Andy Ruiz in 2019.

But the Watford powerhouse has proved he still has plenty of fire left in his belly with spiteful stoppage wins over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou last time out.

Another two-belt clash with WBC’s Shakur Stevenson remains on ice, and ‘Tank’ Davis was reportedly targeting a rematch with Isaac Cruz after the Mexican became only one of two men to take him the distance back in 2021.

Those plans were scuppered by one Jose Valenzuela. ‘El Rayo’ beat Cruz for his WBA Super-Lightweight World Title in August. Naturally, many in the sport began to speculate that the winner was now in line for Davis, even despite his trainer Robert Garcia stating clearly that they wouldn’t fight again this year.

Speaking to ES News from the gym, Valenzuela shut down the speculation, saying that the contracted rematch with Cruz takes precedence.

Those who still believe the fight – which would likely see Davis step up to 140 pounds for the second time in his campaign – is next will assume a step-aside deal is being worked out with Cruz.
