Simone Biles’s estranged mother publicly begs her daughter for an opportunity to reconnect.
Shanon Biles, the estranged mother of superstar gymnast Simone Biles, has recently expressed her desire to reconnect with her daughter.
Simone recently added to her gold medal count at the Paris Olympics, calcifying her legacy as one of the greatest gymnasts ever. She won three gold medals in the Paris Games: artistic individual all-around, artistic team All-around and value artistic gymnastics, bringing her total Olympic gold medal count to seven.
Biles has been in high spirits since the games, enjoying her triumph and revelling in her GOAT status. She could be set for some sober—tear-jerking—talks soon, however, as her mother, Sonia, who abandoned her as a child, has taken to the public her desire to mend their relationship.
What Sonia said
The 52-year-old abandoned Simone and her younger sister Adria with their grandparents Ron and Nellie Biles while they were kids, as she struggled with drug and alcohol addiction.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, she sought forgiveness from her daughter and hopes they can reconnect.
“I would like to make amends with Simone personally; I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria,” Shanon said.
“I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.
“I’m waiting for the opportunity but I’m waiting on her to be able to come to me. Let’s sit down. I just have to be patient.”
