Having beaten both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk has a well informed view on what might happen were the two to meet.
Usyk has cleared out all of the main competition in the heavyweight division in the last six years since moving up from cruiserweight. He left the weight class below as undisputed champion and recently repeated that feat at heavyweight. He twice beat Anthony Joshua to relive him of his three world titles and then defend them in a second fight, and wasn’t significantly hurt in either on his way to a brace of points victories.
After beating Daniel Dubois to defend his belts, Usyk then took on WBC champion Fury last May. He once again got a points win after landing the more significant punches across the 12-rounds, and in December he entered into a rematch with ‘The Gypsy King’ that went the same way. This time, he got a unanimous decision with all three ringside judges giving him the fight 116-112.
Speaking to Boxing King Media, Usyk exclaimed Fury gave him the harder fights but predicted an ‘Anthony Joshua on points’ victory should the two meet.
This is the natural next fight for these long time British rivals and would be a legacy defining contest that would be of great interest to fans.
Meanwhile, Usyk has many options. Plenty of people would happily see him retire given what he has achieved, although there is also clamour to see him take on Dubois once more to again unify all of the major belts.
