Tyson Fury is retired from boxing for now but Duke McKenzie still believes he should remain in the sport in some capacity.

Fury decided to hang up his gloves releasing a video confirming his retirement, despite intense talk of finally setting his heavyweight rivalry with Anthony Joshua this year.

The ‘Gypsy King’ had suffered back-to-back defeats against the division’s leading operator Oleksandr Usyk, but his career still had potential of drawing some commercial blockbuster nights.

Although there is still optimism that Fury will step in the ring with Joshua, given Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh intends to hold talks to try and lure him back into the squared circle.

Fury also retired last in 2022 after beating Dillian Whyte, but life outside of the sport wasn’t for him, and he made a U-turn and was lured back into some big fights.

He is now 36-years-old and despite being at the twilight end of his career, is still an extremely gifted technical fighter.

And ex-world champion McKenzie believes he should return, but if he chooses not to, should try his hand at promoting fighters on the other side of the fence.

He told talkSPORT.com: “100 per cent, it probably will happen [lured out of retirement for Joshua fight].

“He’s said the same thing several times, and then something comes in his mind a few months on when he gets bored.

It says ‘ I have to do the only thing IO can do’ and that is boxing. And I don’t see him as a TV analyst.

“I don’t think he has the mentality for that. I think his forte would be staying in the sport, but maybe as a promoter or a manager.

“I think he’d be great at that if he chooses not to come back, he will always be involved in boxing.

“But I just think he still has another fight in him.”

Fury and Joshua still promises to be one of the biggest fights in boxing, despite no world titles likely to be on the line.

Joshua is too looking to bounce back after being on the receiving end of a brutal stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September.

But despite their current predicaments, the pair could earn huge paydays for agreeing to a showdown, particularly if it is a two-fight deal.

Reports surprisingly indicated that the fight could be worth £500 million, but they were dismissed by Saudi kingpin Alalshikh.

Although McKenzie still believes it would be a mistake for Fury to leave the lucrative opportunities behind.

He added: “Yeah whatever they offer him whether it is £100 million or £200 million, take it.

“I still believe he will come out of retirement, make no mistake about that.”

For now Fury is being left to his own devices and has yet to make any further comment on his retirement.

His promoter Frank Warren is satisfied with his decision, and doesn’t plan to contact him and attempt to reverse his plan.

Anthony Joshua has been called out for a shock trilogy fight as Tyson Fury showdown looks impossible.

Anthony Joshua’s hopes of fighting Tyson Fury in 2025 seem impossible at this point. ‘The Gypsy King’ shockingly announced on social media that he is hanging up the gloves on January 13th.

Joshua last fought Daniel Dubois in September 2024 and suffered a devastating knockout loss.

He has now been called out by former opponent Dillian Whyte. Joshua fought Whyte in 2015 and earned a fifth-round knockout win. The British pair also collided in the amateur scene where Whyte won after knocking Joshua down.

Whyte, 36, is interested in setting up part three. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

[Joshua] Sounds perfect for me. They don’t need to ask me twice. They talk about me as an option, but they haven’t said anything to me, so it’s just negotiation tactics from them. But I’m up for the fight and I’m ready to fight again. If he wants to fight, then all they’ve got to do is call me. I’m always up for fighting AJ. No problem for me. However, personally, I think he’s finished.

Whyte further claimed that AJ made a mistake by not taking an immediate rematch against Daniel Dubois. He said:

I think he made a huge mistake not taking the immediate rematch with Dubois. It was a world title fight, a great payday and the perfect opportunity to avenge his knockout loss. He will forever have to suffer the memes of being face-planted at Wembley by Dubois.

Former world super-featherweight champion Barry Jones has weighed in on the much-anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, tipping Fury as the clear favorite if the fight happens this year.

Speaking on the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast, Jones highlighted Fury’s impressive performance against Oleksandr Usyk despite his recent loss and suggested the Gypsy King still has plenty to offer in the sport.

“Fury is a massive favourite but I think in general he was always a slight favourite [against Joshua],” Jones said.

“He’ll want the Joshua fight because he’s almost beaten every fighter of his generation. It might be a different Joshua, but it’s a different Fury.”

“I think to get Joshua on his record in years to come will show how good he is.”

Potential Venues and Stakes

While Jones predicts the fight will take place in a UK stadium, boxing expert Steve Bunce is skeptic about it. Both fighters are under immense pressure, with their legacies and pride on the line.

Bunce stated: “The loser has a massive amount to lose. Fury can lose to Usyk again no problem, Joshua can lose to Dubois again no problem. I just think this is a monumental fight.”

“The loser of that drops a lot of ground pride-wise.”

Recent Form of Both Fighters

Fury, 36, is coming off a points defeat to Usyk in December but has stated he has no intention of retiring.

Joshua, 35, suffered a stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois in an IBF world title fight last September, casting doubts over his ability to reclaim top status in the division.

With both fighters facing critical moments in their careers, a Fury-Joshua matchup could serve as a definitive test of their standing among the heavyweight elite.

Eddie Hearn has admitted it is not “time to start prodding” Tyson Fury over a potential fight with Anthony Joshua.

In December, Fury was outpointed by Oleksandr Usyk for the second time in seven months, as the “Gypsy King” failed to take the unified heavyweight titles from the Ukrainian.

That result came three months after Joshua suffered a brutal knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in an IBF title bout, leaving “AJ” and Fury empty handed.

While Joshua, 35, versus Fury, 36, is not the fight it once was, the Britons may be on a collision course again, and Hearn was asked about the contest on Monday (6 January).

“It’s literally the fight that every casual fan in the UK wants,” Hearn told The Stomping Ground. “It’s the biggest fight in boxing commercially, and when people say it’s not… Tell me a bigger fight; there isn’t one.

“I don’t know if it’s gonna happen, there’s been no discussions. Fury’s just coming off that defeat, and at some point after his break, he’s gonna turn around and decide what he wants to do. If he wants to fight AJ, the fight happens immediately. We’ll see.

“I don’t think it’s the time to start prodding Tyson Fury. Don’t forget, he lost on 21 December, so give him a few weeks [to] chill out.

“Obviously you’ve got Dubois fighting [Joseph] Parker on 22 February, but sooner or later in the coming weeks, we will want to put a plan together for Anthony Joshua.

“That is when the conversation will come with Frank Warren [Fury’s promoter], Spencer Brown [Fury’s manager] and His Excellency [Saudi adviser Turki Al-Sheikh]. And we’ll say: ‘Look, we want to make AJ-Fury, what do you think?’

“AJ wants to become world heavyweight champion again, no doubt. He really wants to rematch Dubois, but he also understands the size of the Fury fight.”

After Joshua’s loss to Dubois, talk quickly turned to a rematch between the British pair, though Dubois is now eyeing a bout with Usyk – if he can get past Parker.

Dubois was stopped by Usyk in 2023, though there was controversy when the Briton dropped the southpaw with a punch that was ruled a low blow. Dubois later insisted the shot had been legal, but his appeal against his defeat was dismissed.

“I’m not sure, but that’s my target, 2025, I’m targeting Tyson Fury.”

There has been no official announcement, but Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, reportedly teased the fight in December 2024, saying:

“Has there been a better time? They’re both coming off defeats, both in the twilight of their careers.” He added, “One in Wembley, one in Riyadh – two fights in 2025.”

Both are in the twilight of their careers, lets hope Jake Paul isn’t listening. Since the fight was teased, Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury memes and reactions have filled the internet.

Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury memes and reactions

So, who is excited for Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury? The short answer is a very low population. Many are supporting the decision but most of the reactions are hilariously negative.

Ever since his loss against Daniel Dubois people have been wary of Joshua’s standing in the ring. However, don’t think for a second that this means that Fury is being favored as a winner; in fact, the opposite.

His multiple losses to Oleksandr Usyk have put doubts in the fans, who just think he should throw in his towel rather than drag his career.

The Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury memes and reactions are both sad and hilarious. The gist of most of the memes is that not everyone is on board with the fight and would rather see both the champions just give up and retire. What meme culture has done is given people different ways to say the same thing. Here are some hilarious reactions.

A matchup between Fury and Joshua has long alluded the boxing world for one reason or another. Many believe the typical boxing politics prevented the two from sharing the ring at the peak of their careers. Now that both men are without gold and have tasted defeat more than once, there is a belief that the fight could finally come to fruition.

The only problem is, some feel that the best chance to make the bout happen has come and gone and the interest level won’t be nearly as high as it could’ve been.

Darren Till Blasts Promoters for Botching Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua

With talk once again swirling of a potential clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, former UFC star Darren Till took to his ‘X’ account to unleash a rant on the fight not happening when it should have.

“5 years too late. No one is assed. Respect the fuck out of the both of you. But you and ur promoters wanted to play who’s got the biggest dick so the fight is just like yeh… we’ll watch it but we’re not fucking assed. Why on gods green earth didn’t use fight when use were both on tears years ago? It’s not the same now and that is why Dana is laughing again.

“Soon as the best reach the top they fight each other. Tyson and AJ have been fighting everyone but each other and that was the fight to make years ago at Wembley. But obvs that was back when both thought the other didn’t need the other and ur promoters were in the toilets measuring their dicks and their egos.

“Sorry to rant but I think a lot of people will agree… I actually feel like it’s an insult to the fanbase for us to give use hundreds of millions when really we should have got this fight years ago so yeh… fuck off AJ we’re not assed mate!”

If “The Gypsy King” and Joshua finally do battle in 2025, the fight is still expected to do big business despite the timing. The question is, how much interest will the fight garner at this point?
