Gervonta Davis is receiving a lot of criticism over his boxing opponents amid the news that he could box Jake Paul.

Tank is the current WBA Lightweight Champion, with an undefeated 30-0-1 record. He is coming off the back end of a poor performance, during which many believed he was lucky to come out with a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Davis took a voluntary knee in the ninth round before going to his corner to wipe grease from his face. The referee failed to count that as a legitimate 10-8 round, meaning that Roach was prevented from getting a decision on the scorecards.

While Roach’s team appealed to the New York State Athletic Commission to overturn the result, the Commission kept the same ruling. They are reportedly set to run things back on August 16. However, there are also suggestions that Davis is looking to line up a lucrative fight with Paul. The Problem Child faces Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his next fight in June. If Paul comes through that bout, he could box Davis.

Davis Vs. Paul

However, this would call into question the credibility of the sport, given the difference in weight classes. Davis is a 135-pound fighter, while Paul boxes at cruiserweight. Davis also has many other big fights lined up in his division, should he want them. He could face Shakur Stevenson in a unification bout. There is also the opportunity to face off against Vasiliy Lomachenko, whilst bigger names await him at 140 pounds: Teofimo is the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion.

Davis could also challenge himself against the likes of David Haney and Ryan Garcia, if a catchweight could be made. The problem is that Paul offers fighters a massive payday. Jake reportedly earned $40 million for his exhibition against Mike Tyson, meaning such a fight for Davis is appealing.

Tank admitted before the Roach fight that he wanted to retire this year with a view to fighting three more times. The fight with Paul offers him an opportunity to potentially eclipse the purse he earned for the Ryan Garcia fight, which was allegedly $50 million. However, Shakur has slammed Davis for being linked with such a bout, stating that he is now mocking the sport.

“Man, Tank is disrespectful to the sport if he chooses that over fighting with me. I’m the best fighter in the sport. I’ve been telling him that. He called cap on it. If he wants to call cap and say I’m not who I say I am, come prove it,” Shakur said

This year’s most intriguing matchup is now about four months away, with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) set to face Terence “Bud” Crawford (41-0-0, 31 KOs) in a clash at 168 lbs.

Both fighters are coming off of fights that presented unforeseen challenges in different ways. For Canelo, he faced a fighter who was unwilling to engage for the duration of the bout, while Crawford seemed to have difficulty adjusting to a heavier division, where his punches didn’t carry the same kind of venom that they did at 147.

scar De La Hoya has framed this match as a battle between two shot fighters, probably because he has no dog in the fight. However, both fighters have been judged somewhat harshly for their most recent performances.

When Canelo faced Scull, Scull was content to strafe, backpedal, and leap backwards in order to avoid engaging with his opponent. In the few instances where Canelo was actually able to catch up to Scull, his punches looked as sharp and powerful as they’ve looked in other recent fights. One valid knock against Alvarez is that he can be discouraged when things aren’t going his way. Though he never seemed to lose control of the fight, he did seem to lose the motivation to try to track his man down and put him out.

For most of the fight, he was content to simply pressure Scull while remaining within his comfort zone and racking up points with his aggression. One fight that viewers can contrast this effort with is Naoya Inoue’s fight against Paul Butler. Rather than concede that he would be unable to catch someone who was single-mindedly dedicated to surviving on fight night, Inoue tried everything he could think of to get to Butler. He tried cutting off the ring, giving ground, and taunting before eventually deciding to throw caution to the wind and go in for the kill a little more recklessly, ultimately ending the fight. For all of Canelo’s greatness, in his fights against Mayweather, Bivol, and Scull, when he was unable to find success with the tools in his toolbox, he never tried thinking outside of the box.

While many have focused on how Crawford may be able to find success by using his feet to stay out of range, Crawford will be 38 by the time they fight in September. Additionally, Crawford has rarely gotten on his bicycle throughout his career, even less so in the later stages of it. Crawford and BoMac have likely spent a lot of time working on ways to frustrate Canelo, who does tend to stick to the same handful of combinations.

Granted, Canelo usually finds great ways to get those combinations off when combined with his steady pressure and responsible defense while moving in. In Crawford’s most recent fight, he won a gritty decision against Israil Madrimov. Many people focused on Crawford’s lack of ability to hurt Madrimov, which is a valid concern considering he’ll need to jump up two more weight classes to face off against arguably the best chin in boxing. The other thing people fixated on was how many punches he threw and failed to land.

He threw 433 punches and landed only 95 of them, achieving 22% punch accuracy over 12 rounds to win the fight. The prevailing opinion tended to be that Crawford is getting older and less effective, but the more likely explanation is that, as the smaller man coming up to face a champion in a new weight class, Crawford needed to throw a lot more punches to keep the bigger guy off of him. Rather than a ping against him, this should be seen as an adjustment that he made to earn a tough victory.

That being said, come September, Crawford will have his hands full against the relentless pressure that will be coming from a naturally much larger man in Canelo, who has proven that even as a small 168 lb. fighter, his power is still enough to rattle opponents who regularly weigh around 15 lbs more than him on fight night. People who back Crawford tend to believe that the deciding factor will be Crawford’s ring IQ, often claiming that it will be a performance akin to Mayweather’s masterclass against a much younger Canelo. Canelo’s fans push back by asserting that Canelo has grown tremendously since that fight, which would be foolish to deny. But just how skilled is Crawford? The answer is, skilled enough to dispel the old adage that “a good big man always beats a good little man” in the minds of the boxing public.

The fact that this fight’s possible outcome is being debated so fiercely indicates enormous respect for Bud’s mastery of his craft. Although Crawford’s level of skill has rarely been seen, people shouldn’t discount Canelo’s ring IQ in addition to his imposing physical ability. It can take years to fully adjust to increased muscle mass. It will be interesting to see how Crawford is able to handle power shots from someone who has been campaigning three weight classes higher than him for a considerable amount of time.

Despite Crawford being taller and having longer arms, Canelo’s frame is much more robust and might prove to be impervious to the naturally smaller man’s best shots. Conversely, Crawford is uniquely physically strong, with a background in wrestling, and incredible athleticism. The natural inclination would be to pick Canelo to win due to his size advantage in addition to being a great boxer himself, but with so many oddball factors, the matchup remains incredibly intriguing and worthy of discussion. Both fighters have strong fan bases and even crossover among fans that is sure to attract a sizable audience. This appears to be a great chance for boxing to make good on its promise to entertain if both fighters show up on fight night.

Sharing the links with Rory McIlroy is a golfer’s dream, and countless enthusiasts have savored that dream since the Northern Irishman stepped into the pro golf scene in 2007.

Recognized as one of the darlings of the PGA Tour, the 35-year-old has endured fierce competition with his peers. Nonetheless, they’ve been outspoken about the pleasure of playing alongside him.

Fellow golfers often commend McIlroy for his intellectual approach to the game and his graceful demeanor on the course, qualities that have only enhanced his status following his recent Masters triumph.

McIlroy isn’t lacking admiration from his fellow pros; familiar faces like Wyndham Clark, Billy Horschel, Shane Lowry, and even rookie PGA Tour caddie Derek Anderson have expressed high praise for the Holywood native.

Wyndham Clark

Speaking of Wyndham Clark, he found himself in McIlroy’s company during the second round of the BMW Championship back in August 2024 – an event that ended with Keegan Bradley lifting the trophy, reports the Mirror US.

Having already shared the tee box in previous outings, it was disclosed by Clark post-round that he and McIlroy boast a natural rapport, making any tournament day with him all the more delightful.

“Yeah, I mean, Rory and I have probably played I’d say a total of 14, 15 rounds together,” Clark said. “Rory is a nice guy, and I typically, my demeanour, I like to talk to my playing partners. It helps me get into a better place.”

Derek Anderson

Ex-NFL quarterback Derek Anderson relished his stint as a PGA Tour caddie and was particularly impressed with the five-time major champion’s prowess and demeanor.

During the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, won by McIlroy and his partner Shane Lowry, the 14-year NFL alum took up caddie duties for Kevin Chappell. He confessed on GOLF’s Subpar podcast that he was awestruck not just by McIlroy’s skillset but also by his presence on the green.

“It’s just different,” Anderson observed about McIlroy. “The sound’s different. Kinda the way he goes about it. I kinda was never a huge Rory guy. I’ve always like him and [been] impressed with his game, but the way that he carries himself, what he’s doing on the golf course; there’s an intent.

“You can see [him thinking], ‘I’m the guy, my bag goes here, I’m gonna whack it,’ and he wants to have some of that Tiger intimidation. But he doesn’t act like it. He’s confident in what he’s doing. Just kinda the way he goes about it, the way he hits it.”

Billy Horschel

Meanwhile, Billy Horschel recounted his gripping face-off with McIlroy at last September’s BMW PGA Championship, where the American triumphed in a nail-biting play-off finish.

McIlroy, who had a rocky few months last year with runner-up finishes at both the US Open and Irish Open, didn’t let his string of near wins dampen his sportsmanship. In the wake of several close calls that left him trophyless, he still found the grace to extend congrats to the 38-year-old victor.

Speaking to Golf Monthly, Horschel expressed the depth of McIlroy’s disappointment: “I knew how much getting edged at the US and the Irish this year hurt him. So I could appreciate how he must have felt when my eagle putt went in, just after his own eagle try burned the hole.

“But the way he looked at me and gave me a little smile, and then congratulated me later, meant so much to me. I think that just showed he is one of the classiest golfers of this generation, as well as the most talented.”

Shane Lowry

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry, one of McIlroy’s good friends, has had quite the brilliant 2025 himself, cracking into the world top 10 for the first time ever in his career.

This year alone, he’s snagged three top 10 spots and last month triumphed at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his mate McIlroy – marking his third PGA Tour title win.

Despite flourishing lately, Lowry hasn’t managed to secure an individual PGA Tour victory in six years. However, taking inspiration from McIlroy’s relentless pursuit of the Masters and determination in competition, Lowry remains optimistic about his chances.

Before hitting the green for the final round at the Truist Championship, he shared his philosophy: “I just think you need to be persistent,” Lowry stated. “You need to keep putting yourself there, and eventually it will happen.

“You look at Rory at the Masters a few weeks ago. Keep knocking on the door, and eventually you’ll go through it. I feel like I’ve done a good job of it this season, last season.”

The PGA Championship is underway at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The world’s top golfers are chasing the second major of the season. All eyes are on Rory McIlroy as he looks to win back-to-back majors.

If not McIlroy, then perhaps Jordan Spieth is drawing attention. The American needs just a PGA Championship win to complete his career Grand Slam.

Tiger Woods

But one major name is missing from the field — Tiger Woods. Despite his absence, Woods continues to be a prominent figure in the sport.

On Thursday, Forbes published an updated list of the richest athletes in the world, based on both on-field and off-field earnings.

Woods came in at No. 45 overall, earning an estimated $55.4 million — $40 million of which came off the course. He remains one of the highest-paid golfers in the game. While this is still impressive, in 2002, Woods was the highest-paid athlete in the world. In 2009, Woods was the first athlete to top $1 billion in career earnings.

Among golfers, Woods ranks fourth in earnings on this year’s list. Leading the group is Jon Rahm with $100 million, placing him 12th overall. Scottie Scheffler (14th) follows at $92.5 million, while Rory McIlroy is 17th at $87.9 million. Woods is next at 45th, and Xander Schauffele rounds out the five golfers in the top 50.

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo topped the overall athlete earnings list with $275 million, followed by NBA star Steph Curry, boxer Tyson Fury, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and another soccer star, Lionel Messi.

Woods’ long-standing partnerships with brands such as General Motors, Titleist, General Mills, American Express and Accenture continue to bolster his income.

Now 49 years old, Woods is tied with Sam Snead for the most PGA Tour wins in history (82) and ranks second in major championships to Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18. Woods’ last major victory came at the 2019 Masters, his fifth green jacket and 15th major title.

Woods has confirmed he will not play again for the rest of the 2025 season after rupturing an Achilles in March.

Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki dropped a supportive comment under Brooks Koepka’s timely social media ode to his wife, Jena Sims, just as Rory McIlroy’s marital split from Erica Stoll made headlines.

Before Xander Schauffele’s triumph at the 2024 PGA Championship, McIlroy shocked the golfing world by filing for divorce from Stoll, describing their marriage as “irretrievably broken” before astonishingly backpedaling on that decision a month later.

As the split made headlines, Koepka hopped on Instagram to shower Sims with adoration in what many saw as a subtle dig at his golfing adversary. Wozniacki, who once nearly tied the knot with McIlroychimed in beneath the post.

The Danish star can often be seen at golf events alongside her husband, former NBA star David Lee, as they cheer on Koepka. Wozniacki and Lee married in 2019 and have two children following her split from McIlroy in 2014.

In the midst of McIlroy divorce chatter, Koepka’s Instagram was ablaze with pictures of Sims gracing the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. His caption read: “So proud of you. amazing to see what hard work can do! I love you!”

“Hot mama, Wozniacki commented with several fire emojis. McIlroy and Wozniacki were together for more than two years before calling it quits in May 2014. Their split happened shortly after they had sent out wedding invitations.

McIlroy characterized the split as amicable and mutual, yet Wozniacki countered that their romance was cut short by a brief phone call from the golfer, after which they ceased communication.

McIlroy met Stoll during her time working at the 2012 Ryder Cup with the PGA of America. Their romance sparked three years after McIlroy’s parting with Wozniacki..

The duo exchanged vows in April 2017 and embraced parenthood with the arrival of their daughter, Poppy, three years later. Despite Koepka’s apparent dig, McIlroy and Stoll were able to reconcile their differences just before the 2024 U.S. Open.

McIlroy “voluntarily dismissed” his petition to separate from Stoll. It was a dramatic change of events for the 35-year-old’s personal life, given the relationship with his wife appeared broken beyond repair after filing for divorce just one month prior.

“There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate,” McIlroy said in a statement. “Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game.

“In recent weeks, Erica and I came to the realization that our optimal future lies together as a family. We’re grateful to have worked through our issues and are excited about starting anew.”

Fresh off his 2025 Masters victory, McIlroy sets his sights on further triumphs at the upcoming PGA Championship scheduled at Quail Hollow from May 15-18.

Floyd Mayweather Sr has emphatically shut down talk of his son following in Manny Pacquiao’s footsteps by reversing his retirement.

‘Money’ Mayweather hung up his gloves in 2017 with an unblemished 50-0 record.

Since then, the 48-year-old has continued to compete in lucrative exhibition bouts with YouTubers, reality TV stars and everything in between.

He teased the idea of returning to pro boxing three years ago to rematch Conor McGregor or Pacquiao.

However, nothing ever came to fruition. And according to his dad, it never will.

“No deal,” Mayweather Sr told the Mayweather Channel when asked if his son would ever box professionally again.

“I’m telling you when I [say] it like that, you know what’s up.”

The question was posed to Mayweather Sr days after it was announced that Pacquiao is set to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in his first pro fight in four years.

Pacquiao, aged 46, last fought in August 2021, when he was beaten on points by Yordenis Ugas.

Yet the WBC have sanctioned him to box for their version of the 147lbs world title against a man 17 years his junior.

According to reports, the fight is being targeted for July 19 in Las Vegas, and it hasn’t gone down well with the boxing fraternity.

talkSPORT pundit Spencer Oliver was left bewildered by the news and let his thoughts be known live on air last week.

“Pacquiao looked a shell of his former self in his last fight against Ugas,” said Oliver.

“He has had a long career and turned pro in 1995. He’s a great, but he’s coming back now.

“But the biggest disgrace of this is that the WBC are sanctioning the fight for a world title, which is just wrong.

“I think it’s a young man’s sport, the inactivity and way he performed in his last fight. I don’t like it.

“Let’s just leave it there. But the governing bodies should only sanction fights if they are in the top 15.

“He’s been retired for four years, so how does that warrant him jumping the queue and fighting Barrios?

“It’s wrong in so many ways. The system is broken with the WBC allowing that to happen.”

Tiger Woods won’t be teeing it up at this week’s PGA Championship, but he’s still making moves-just not the kind fans expected.

The 15-time major winner recently made headlines for an unexpected visit to President Donald Trump. While the meeting raised eyebrows, especially with Woods sidelined due to injury, it turns out the stop wasn’t about politics or pleasantries. It was about golf-specifically, the high-stakes tug-of-war between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

JUST IN: Tiger Woods unprecedented support? Paige Spiranac brings energy to PGA Championship week in striking outfit

For nearly three years, the golf world has been caught in a golf civil war. LIV Golf, backed by Saudi Arabia’s powerful Public Investment Fund (PIF), lured away top talent with staggering contracts, throwing the PGA Tour into chaos. The two sides reached a tentative merger deal in 2023, but it’s been frozen in place amid antitrust scrutiny and growing questions about LIV’s future.

As golf’s elite prepare to compete at Quail Hollow, social media sensation Paige Spiranac is making waves ahead of the 2025 PGA Championship-not for her swing, but for her tribute to one of the sport’s legends.

The influencer turned heads by wearing a Tiger Woods-inspired Sunday Red outfit, honoring the 15-time major champion who is sidelined due to injury.

While Spiranac’s tribute was a lighthearted nod to Woods, his absence looms large over the tournament. Earlier this year, Woods announced he had suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, requiring surgery that would likely keep him out for the entire 2025 season. Despite his setback, his presence is still felt, with Spiranac ensuring fans don’t forget his iconic red look.

The PGA Championship, set to begin on Thursday morning, features an intriguing lineup. Rory McIlroy is seeking his second major win of the year after his victory at Augusta National, while Scottie Schefflerenters as the tournament favorite. However, Spiranac took to social media to clear up common confusion about the event itself-reminding fans that the PGA Championship is hosted by the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour.

No harm in supporting one of the best

As excitement builds, Spiranac’s playful enthusiasm has added to the anticipation surrounding the event. Her ability to engage fans beyond the course has made her one of golf’s most recognizable personalities, and her Tiger Woods-inspired outfit only reinforced her connection to the sport’s biggest moments.

With the tournament set to get underway, all eyes will be on McIlroy, Scheffler, and the rest of the field. Though Woods won’t be competing, his influence remains undeniable, as Spiranac and others continue to celebrate his legacy.

Of course that the whole world will be watching what is Tiger Woods next move, but for now people will have to seat back and relax and algo enjoy the content that Paige Spiranac chooses to create for her fans and followers around the globe.

Tyson Fury looks set to make a retirement U-turn after his manager confirmed the former world champion has bought a new pair of boxing boots.

The ‘Gypsy King’ announced his retirement back in January after suffering a second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Many had hoped to see Fury and long-time rival Anthony Joshua go head-to-head in the ring this year. While that seemed unlikely at first, it seems as if the two-time heavyweight champion could be making yet another boxing comeback.

During a recent interview with iFL TV, Fury’s manager Spencer Brown teased a possible comeback for the Brit after revealing his client made a rather eye-catching purchase. “Well, he has bought a new pair of boxing boots, so what does that tell you?” he said.

Tyson Fury has retired from boxing

“I was with him the other day up in Scotland, we had a great time, he was happy, he had a couple of Guinnesses, and he does look in good nick. But he has bought himself a new pair of boxing boots and some new boxing shorts. You will know soon enough, won’t you? He gave you a little bit of an appetiser. We will see [whether he returns], but all good things come when they are ready.”

Brown’s comments come just days after Fury uploaded a short video in the gym alongside trainer SugarHill Steward. Fury, 36, who was sweating slightly after potentially wrapping up a workout said: “Just in the gym, happened to bump into somebody you might know.” He then shifted the camera towards the direction of an energetic and happy SugarHill – who replied: “You know what time it is!” The ‘Gypsy King’ had the last say before ending the story: “You know what’s coming,” he said.

The Brit later suggested he’s ready for a trilogy fight with Usyk, stating: “Any time, any place.” In an interview with The Stomping Ground, the Ukrainian was asked bout fighting Fury again, saying: “Maybe it’s Tyson Fury. Maybe it’s Anthony Joshua.” He then added on Fury: “He’s not retired. I think Tyson will continue training, continue boxing, because he’s a great man. Yes, Tyson Fury… a lot of speak – blah blah blah blah – but it’s good. Great man, wow.” Responding to an Instagram post of the interview, Fury wrote: “Beat the f***er two times the world knows the truth. Any time, any place. sucher (sic) UK next time 100k people.”

That said, fans are hoping to witness a historic all-British clash between Joshua and Fury. ‘AJ’ recently confirmed he will not return to the gym until July as he prepares to have surgery on his elbow. The former two-time heavyweight world champion has not fought since he was brutally knocked out inside five rounds by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September.

“When do you want me back, people?” he asked on DAZN before Canelo Alvarez took to the ring to face William Scull earlier this month. “I’m trying to get my body right. I have got to actually have a little surgery on my elbow. “A small surgery sometime in May. I’m finalising the details… that will see me out of the gym for maybe six to eight weeks, and then when I’m healed, I will be back.”

Anthony Joshua has finally revealed the severity of his injury which could keep him out until the end of 2025.

AJ last fought in September 2024, attempting to become a three-time world champion at Wembley when he faced Daniel Dubois. The fight saw Dubois dominate Joshua and knock him out in the fifth round. There was a potential rematch for this fight, however the IBF set a deadline of April, which was unable to take place due to Joshua’s injury.

What Anthony Joshua Has Said About His Injury

It’s an elbow injury that is keeping AJ sidelined

In an interview with iFL TV, Joshua opened up on how serious the injury is, saying: “They’re obviously gonna go in – long story short, the bone in the joint is free at the minute. This is my left arm. It’s nice and free. But over a period of time, there’s a signal that gets sent to the brain, like, (This) keeps on jamming, what’s going on? We need to grow some more bone to protect this area. But ultimately, I needed to be free, because of my job.

“But it’s like, my body is doing the right thing, getting stronger, to protect itself from this trauma that keeps happening. So, over a period of time, what they tend to do is, they go in, with a small little drill. A thin little drill – keyhole surgery – go into the elbow, and just file it down, nice and precise. It’s like a tooth, if you have a root canal, or whatever you call it, you know? File the tooth down, someone’s there with a suction, taking out all the bone that’s floating around, and then it’ll just heal, really.

“But you gotta make sure you do your rehab, do all your strength work, as well, because after surgery you need to focus on making sure you get the range of motion back. And then once it’s fully healed, you ice it, acupuncture, strengthen it. Good as new, back to work, basically.”

Anthony Joshua’s Next Fight

Names have been thrown around, but nothing has been confirmed

This surgery will keep Joshua out for a further eight weeks, before allowing him to return to the gym in preparation for another fight. Speaking to ESPN Mexico, the former world champion said that he wants to return to the ring in December. There have been multiple rumoured opponents for Joshua’s return fight, with Martin Bakole, Agit Kabayel, and Deontay Wilder all potentially lined up to face the Brit at the end of the year.

Anthony Joshua’s professional boxing record (as of 10/05/25)
32 fights 28 wins 4 losses
By knockout 25 2
By decision 3 2

The 35-year-old has also been called out by Jake Paul, with the Problem Child set to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June after defeating Mike Tyson in an exhibition match in his last fight. Joshua could also finally have the long-awaited clash with Tyson Fury. However, these options both seem unlikely to happen this year.
